Well,

I got ServingInEcuador's sonic adventure reality like a month back and have been very very very satisfied with its performance when coupled with my HD580s (clou blue). The problem I do have is that when I try to use low impedance headphones (Ultrasone HFI-650, AIWA HPV-163 earbuds) I hear a distinct hum through the headphones. The hum is not noticeable when music is played, but when there is no signal present it hums and hums. Since I am seriously contemplating purchasing the AT A1000 or A100ti, I am wondering if this hum will carry on over to these phones. Is it just my sonic advenure, or is this problem prevalent on other low impendance phones + tube amp combos? Much thanks

John

John,

Glad you like the amp!! As to the hum issue, try unplugging the IC connectors on the back of the amp, and then try listening to it again. I had a hum also, but once I unplugged the ICs it went away. I found that the hum was introduced thru the power cords into the IC.

If this fixes the problem, try putting more distance between the IC and PC.

You know, it's kinda funny that you chose sonicthewebhog for your username, and then later bought a Sonic Adventure Reality. Coincidence??

Got a kick out of the Team Sonic Adventure!!!! You're unique in that count since the only other member isin Japan!!!!

Fate or no, I just pray that you get the hum figured out and gone!! I would hate to think I sold you something that went bad on ya!!

Another thing to try is different tubes. You'll find sometimes that a tube goes bad in introduces all kinds of bad stuff into the sound.

Did you try disconnecting the ICs to see if the hum went away?? I figured you did from the post, but wanted to make sure!!! When Katsudon had me do this it totally fixed the problem, but since I could never hear this during the music I ignored it and didn't bother re-routing all my cords. It could only be heard when the music was off, and the volume cranked way up!!

Let me know if you want a pair of those Amperex tubes as I'm getting ready to post them in just an hour or so, and I think many will go quickly!!
