Hi all, I'm pretty new to the world of head-fi and am looking for a little advice on designing a starter setup. My current plan is to use my Powerbook as a source, but with an upgraded sound card- external I guess. Does anyone have any advice on a good quality card in the $200 range (+ or - @ $100)? Also, if you think in that price range that I'd be better off just buying a decent cd player as a source, I'd love input on that also.

The other components of my setup are a pair of AKG-701's and I'm probably going to go with the Heed CanAmp as soon as I'm able to get ahold of one. If anyone sees any gaps in my setup or components that you think won't mesh well, go ahead and be vocal.

I'm essentially trying to design a nice setup that I'll be happy with for a few years. I need it to be pretty versatile because I listen to a lot of distinctly different genres of music, but focus mainly on classical and jazz.

Thanks in advance for any input you have!
