You're placing the quarter, or coin of your choice depending on the desired hole diameter, on the pad of a headphone and cutting a quarter-sized hole out of the centre of the pad. I've read of this being done to Grado SR-60s and Koss KSC-75s.

Try searching for "Kramer mod" to see this (and other things) being done to a KSC-75.

I was going to do this with HD414 pads and put them on reversed on my PortaPros. Good idea or bad? I am also going to do the kramer mod on those too. Is this a good idea or bad :p

also.. will an exacto knife work? :p

I place the pads on a plastic cutting board and firmly pressed down the coin against the center of the pad. I then used an extremely sharp X-Acto knife (with a pointed wedge-shaped blade) and made my cut around the edge of the coin. This results in perfect circles.

I prefer the hammer and socket method.

Simply place the right sized socket in the center of the pad and wail away!!

I normally put the pad over a piece of soft wood rather than leaving the pads on the phones.

yea putting pads on the headphones while hammering away might not be the smartest or safest thing for your phones
