Since I already own Wenge, Gabon Ebony has now joined Morada Bolivian Rosewood as the leading potential woodies for my next Darths - way down the road, I should add, and probably something I will snap up from the Deals page (or perhaps used). I really like dark wood. (Not surpisingly, Towert, you like red.

They're definately "interesting looking"; however, I'd like to see them from different angles, to pass final judgement.

Maybe it's just me, but I sometimes religiously watch the deals page. Not all the time to buy, but just to see what Larry creates next and sometimes end up buying because the item is so intriguing.

He reminds me of an evil genius, in a lab, cooking up all sorts of potions (headphones in this case) to temp/mesmerize us with; the Vario's, Boobies, DD, Ying Yang, etc., all different/unique in there own way, see what I mean, mesmerizing.

I love this hobby!

Yah it's unfortunate that the other angles are no longer on Larry's site. The Ganon Ebony looked phenomonal head on. I normally save pics on my computer but I was lazy this time which I regret.
I'm like you Snacks. I visit the Deals page just to gander. Actually, but maybe for IEMs (Westone 3 or q-Jays), I'm not in the market at all for headphones. But it is fun to see what the mad scientist cooks up.

BTW since you're keeping them for now, how are those balanced deep open Darths working out? They're beauties.

Had problems selling them...I guess, because they're balanced.
Now they're working out fine; I like them more than my closed darth's...

Explain, okay, but short and sweet!

Of all people, I should know that DBs require a burn-in...I thought that they were, but they weren't. I burned the DD DB's for 100hrs, it took me +200 to get used to their sound. Also, I went back and forth with Larry about what I liked and didn't like about them. Initially, I knew what it was...when I placed my finger-tips in/on/or around the openings the sound changed dramatically for the better. Night and day, but not a long-term solution, if you know what I mean. So, based on my conversations with Larry, I decided to take the plunge in DIY, and manufactured a near identical set of cardboard cut-outs to cover the holes of my DD Darth's.

Now I like them (the DD Darth's) more than the closed Darth's; to me they DD have more mid-range energy and better bass over the closed. Bear in mind that the DBs aren't the be all end all in mid-range energy, bass, treble, accuracy, but they sure are fun when the time requires it. Besides, when I want pinpoint accuracy, etc., I reach for the OIIs.

As for balanced Darth's, long story short, stick with S/E. That is unless you have high ohm Darth's, then it might be worth it. 80 ohms isn't that hard to amp, so the more power you give them, the worse they sound.

Note: Now, I'm happy with them and ready to sell my Maple Darth's.

However, I don't think I will.

Valuable lesson I learned: My taste in headphones, cars, etc., etc., varies. And, I've found that, I always buy back or wonder about what I just sold, (Xin SM x2, DBs x3, OII thought about selling - once, HD 650 thought about selling x4) so budget allowing, I've decided to stick with my guns and hold onto my gear that falls out of favor, because eventually, it will save me money in the long run. Does that make sense?

Wow, I just realized, the only phone that I haven't thought about selling is the 4070... I Love this hobby!

Glad to hear that you like them.

That's very interesting advice. Based on the headphones that Ray Samuels uses to show off the B52 - and how amazing they sounded - I'm inclined to think that HD600s are an ultimate balnced headphone. Horses for courses.

I want deep cup Darths someday....

Very nice indeed! Every time I see a new Darth I feel the urge to listen to mine even more, they are so fun! Tell us if you use the covers? I went open without cover and I am wondering if I am missing something?

I am a sucker for custom stuff and Larry is the master of customization! I have some 325i with BlackDragon re-cable coming and I am looking at the c-pads now, I feel like getting them in zebra so they match my Darth's and I might even use leather pads with them. :p

I love this hobby!
