Sources (other than Allied) for STAX connectors

Even IF Allied wasn't out of stock, I'd still prefer a better connector...

You could ask Wooaudio about his connector since it is much nicer then the Allied part. There is also the option of buying a Stax SRD-4 transformer off ebay and using just the jack.

Dr Wu is an excellent suggestion - $20 each with a mounting bracket, which is quite acceptable.

That's a great price. The allied sockets are so crappy it isn't even funny. I have a nice stash of real Stax sockets but I'll probably order some from Woo to try.

I've never tried this and I don't personally have a stax, but using the diagrams in the mouser catalog, the pins look like they're the right ones for the stax connector. I couldn't find dimensions, though, so you can't be entirely sure

box mount (sorta like the neutrik 1/4" locking jacks):
PT02A-10-98P (plug)
PT02A-10-98S (socket)
~$12 ea socket

jam nut (pretty much panel mount)
PT07A-10-98P (plug)
PT07A-10-98S (socket)
~$20 ea socket

There's an "environmental series" type, probably bigger and more robust, and a wall mount type, but I'm not entirely sure how either one mounts. They start with PT00A- and PT00E- for the part number, respectively. There's an overview (no detailed datasheets I could find) on these amphenol-industrial.com

I'm not sure these will work but I'll order some the next time I order from Mouser.

Are those two stax socket ? But in 5 pin style here
and five pin too here
There are many sockets that use the same connector style but the exact dimensions may be wrong. These are also the wrong way around.

I have strong doubts about those connectors.

Also, the amphenol connector referred to above is a military-style arrangement that uses a grid of much smaller pins, in my experience.

I'm not sure I'd call the Amphenol/WPI/CooperInterconnect connector that Allied sells "crappy". Ugly for sure, and much tighter than the stax socket, but it works fine.

If you have the right tools you can make your own out of a piece of teflon
and some of the yamamoto tube socket pins.

Imagine the socket as a 6 pin with the 6th pin missing, but at position 0,0 (x,y)
The rest of the pins are at
0,.2175
-.2175,0
+.2175,0
-.1087,-.1883
+.1087,-.1883

(in inches)

I've got hundreds of both the male and female amphenol conectors. I'll give anybody that wants to build an amp three or four for free.

Do they work for Stax connectors? If so I'm interested

Yes they do. PM if you want some.

Thanks everyone,
FranckCooter, I'll keep that in mind, in case I build the amp.
