I recently picked up the following 2 new CDs.

Santana "Shaman" - If you liked "Supernatural" then you will like this CD. It doesn't have a bad song on it. My favorite song is #6 Foo Foo. If that doesn't get you up to dance then nothing will.

3 Doors Down "Away From the Sun" - I think the first time I heard these guys it was on some TV show on the WB where they will show what bands were played during the show. I remembered the name so I went to Virgin Records and listened to some of the CD on a listening station. This is an excellent Rock CD and I highly recommend it.

Add these to the list:

Taproot - "Welcome"
These guys remind me a little of the music of Alice in Chains with the screaming vocals of Pantera.

Chevelle - "Wonder What's Next"
I've never heard such deep bass in a recording before. You want to see how low your headphones or speakers can go then go out and buy this CD and hear for yourself what I mean.

Audioslave - "Audioslave"
Chris Cornell from Soundgarden along with the guys from Rage Against the Machine. This CD sounds very much like later Soundgarden. It's straight ahead Rock and Roll with no surprises. It may just be my copy but this is a horrible recording but good music.

Oops, almost forgot about a friend of mine who is in a band. They're called The Locals and if you live in the Chicago area and go to some of the dive bars then you may have heard of them. I don't know what genre I would put their music into because I've never heard any band like them. The band consists of a female lead singer who plays acoustic guitar, a violin player, an electric bass player, and a drummer who is my friend. I would say it's kinda folk popish and because of the violin player maybe just a little country too. To tell you the truth it's not really my type of music although I have seen them live and I think they sound a lot better live. They have a lot of raw energy and are people who have regular jobs during the day but have a lot of fun while on stage playing in front of a crowd. Anyway, if you get a chance go to their website http://www.localsrock.com/ and check them out. Let me know if you want a CD and I will get you a copy.

I picked up Santana's Shaman while I was on a business trip in
Asia. It turns out that the International Edition has one track
that is different from the U.S. Edition. That missing track on the
US edition is also good. Being an old Santana fan for 30 years,
initially I did not like this CD as much, I thought that it would be
fine to do a "Supernatural" type of material once in a while, but
not every album. After listening to it a few times the tracks grew
on me, and I now like most of the music on it.

Enjoy,
W

Acid, what don't you like about the Audioslave recording? To me it sounds like big guitars reining down from the heavens blasting goodness into your ears. I guess its pretty unnatural but I like it. I think it is a much better recording then Down on the Upside for comparisons sake.

'Tis the Season... so while shopping for family the other day, I picked up a copy of the original but remastered Jesus Christ Superstar. Not new music, but still cool sounding 30+ years later.

Some fo the Audioslave CD just sounded very "digital" to me. I run across this sound a lot on CDs. I know it's a digital medium but it just has that coldness to it. Some CDs sound better than others and this one falls in the bad side to me.

. "3 Deuces" and "Your Amazing Grace" are just incredible!! Kenny Garrett's alto sax and Chaka Khan's vocals are stunning! This one especially deserves to be listened to while laying down with eyes closed in a dark room, or better yet, with a significant other. Come to think of it, this would make a great Bedroom Album

Does anyone know any upcoming releases by Mr. Miller?

That album falls on the bad side to me and I'm not just talking digital mastering. Good thing it's borrowed...

Yes its a cold dark album and they use a bunch of different stuff on cornells voice to give it a more processed sound. I guess just don't care.

yeah, it is a great album. love the way he works his bass!

M2 is from 2001. I believe he has a live album out thats rather new, but otherwise, I dunno if he has any plans. from interviews I've read, I get that he does intend on a more steady flow of studio material, with his own new label. so, who knows? maybe next year?
