Best Crossfeed Plugin For Foobar??

I'm using an SSRC resampler atm. Just out of interest, do you crossfeed before resampling or the other way round?

I don't use crossfeed all the time because I find that in constricts the soundstage quite a bit

For wishy washy dreamy pieces, crossfeed just ruins it. However, for small ensemble classical music like quartets, I quite like the more focussed, crossfed sound.

The idea with a Crossfeed plug-in is that it provides a slight amount of one channel to play in the other for a more natural sound (in reality, your ears are not completely isolated from each other, as they are when you wear headphones). A good crossfeed plug-in would probably NOT have an obvious sonic difference when it is enabled. A crossfeed plug-in that is producing an easily discernible difference (probably some kind of reverb effect) is probably crossfeeding much more than necessary.

Why shouldn't it provide a large amount of one channel to play in the other for a more natural sound?

bump 4 year old thread :p

I am looking for a decent crossfeed for foobar. I had an idea for one. It would be totally transparent because it does not alter the audio. But it does check the sound for any significant differences between the left and right channel. If that is detected then it mixes the left and right channels over until that difference is reduced. No filtering or time delay processing. Just turning the sound output closer towards mono. It only adjust the parts of song that are uncomfortable to listen to without crossfeed and has perfect sound quality the rest of the time. That's my idea of the best crossfeed which is the title of the thread.

I'm no programmer I'm not going to make this plugin. Maybe if it's a good idea someone else will though...

I've been using this one with foobar, it does what you said perfectly. I don't like too much processing, too.
Hz slider is for crossfeed low pass filter.
db slider is how much one channel can be differ to another. e.g. if you choose 10db then when the left channel is actually at 0 and right at -inf, the left channel, with frequency smaller than the Hz slider is at, will be mixed to right channel till it reaches -10db.

Sorry but I'm going to hijack this thread to ask another question: does foobar no longer come with a crossfeed plugin because I can't find one in foobar or on the foobar website. . .

Have you tried lower the cut off and increase the db sliders? These will lower the distortion/crossfeed effect, find one that suits you.

I don't know any others worth trying except that BS2B.

I'm using this one atm with a VST bridge for foobar... http://refinedaudiometrics.com/products-hdphx.shtml

So far so good it's a subtle enhancement. Well worth a try although not completely stable at the moment.

Out of all the crossfeed plugins available I find head-fit to be the most to my liking:

There's a thread about it here:

Wouldn't this one qualify as a very serious contender for the best crossfeed available today... It is compatible with Foobar VST plug in. Not cheap, but I am now playing with it (2 months free demo, fully functional), and it is highly effective, with enough parameters to play with to find your sweet spot.
