Chinese Headphone Amp

yeah it is my rig, and it is XLO Ultra 1. CD player is DENON S10II. The headphones are not shown in the pictures. At time of the pictures I used HD580 and K501.
The sound? Quick, detailed and neutral. It doesn't sound like a tube amp at all! (in a good sense) Bass is well extended and rhythmic, midrange clear and not colored, highs detailed and a bit on the bright side, pleasantly bright.
I also have a Headroom maxed out home. I didn't spend much time A/Bing them, but the impression is that they sound a little different. Headroom is a little rolled off at exteme highs, and a little darker, and causes less fatigue over a long period. Both are very good amps.

Hi everyone, I finally got hold of the designer of T2A, Mr Wu Gang. He says he doesn't have a website, but does have an email address:
wug@ntl.pim.tsinghua.edu.cn
he says he has sold the amp to Germany, but not USA yet. He looks forward to hearing from you guys.
Those who are interested might consider purchasing from him directly. Wu Gang is a reputable hi-fi designer in China and besides headphone amp, he also designed a number of integrated amps and pre-amps.

It cost US$250. Do you know how much salary/Months for a general worker ? It is less than US$100. Even a Mid level electronics techinician only around US$200/Month. So US$250 in China is very expensive. Don't expect it retail in USA less than US$400 when it retail in USA (May be have chance). Due Freight charge, Bank interest (Need to keep stock or take long time when shipping). Import tax , Profite by Distributor , dealers........
Come to China and buy it

Welcome to China !

Most people think material cost in China is same as USA ?
No ! Audio Grade material is much expensive than USA ! Why !
It is difficult to buy direct from USA or other country due to Custom clearing is difficult. The big manufacturer purchase material through Hong Kong trading Company and send to HK by some method. It should pay high Tax or by other channel but still should pay around 20% in cost. Some small manufacturer only can buy from market place if they need only small quantity. So I can say it retail in China US$250 is really not cheap. You even can buy some EL34 integrated in this price but quality...... Also Elna Audio grade high Voltage E-cap had discontinued and As I remember it marking is Gold color. We had been use Elna Cerafine in products. It really a very good E-cap , open , detail..
Compare with transformers output type - Sure OTL type sound clear and detail but it seem to be difficult to matching with Headphone under 200 Ohm. So I have an idea. Is it possible to made a Headohone amps can operate in OTL when matching with Headphone 200 to 600 Ohm type. Operate at Transformer coupling when match with Low impedance type may be from 8 Ohm to 100 Ohm. I consider to modify MG-Head and made it can work in both condition.

That sounds very nice!

I would be interested in a product like that.

Sounds like RKV. You drive HD600 OTL and RS1 with a matching transformer Impedancer. But the cost...

Except for DIYers, manufactuers will be hard pressed to adopt such an approach, although an excellent one. Remember $1 increase in manufacturing cost results in 4 or 5 dollars price increase in MSRP.

Can you Imagainate it Price if it Distributing in North American ? I think it will much ! Much ! Higher ! MG-Head actaully very low profite to us ! We can use much better material , work on it more carefully ! But our buget is really very tighten on it ! Also difference user have difference taste. Most of them like to modify
it !
It cost much from China to NA , Freight charge , Import tax , Distributors profite , Dealers profite , Advertisement , After sales service cost......... Too much expensive on it ! So don't expert it will very low cost when it distributing in NA. It just like a Cyber 20 . It cost less than US$300 in China but more than US$1,000 in NA. Ha ! I'm still the winner .... I have OTL mode but other completitor don't have. May be I'm the first designer/manufacturer made a Dual Mode (OTL/Transformers Out) in a Tube amps.

I am back.
Yes currently I use two headphone amps, Headroom Maxed Home and Yeli 8P. Yeli is a renowned Hi-fi designer specializing in tube amps living in Beijing. It is a pity he has no interest whatsoever in commercializing his products. Apart from his many pre-amps and power amps, he designed 3 headphone amps, and he labelled them T28, T26 and 8P, the top model. The design of 8P is, IMO, extravagant and hi-end to the extreme. I have yet to see another headphone amp that uses 12 tubes as the output stage! Yes, 12 Mullard EL91's. And he used the best caps, resistors and the best ALPS volumn knob. For internal wiring he used teflon silver cable all the way. If this was a commercial product, I would have to be a rich man to be a proud owner!
Yeli made 5 or 6 8P's in total and sold them to friends in China. Before making 8P, he always made sure the user had at least a US$1,000 source to match up his hi-end amp.
I don't know how people living outside China can get hold of Yeli to make 8Ps, because as I said he shows zero interest in being a businessman and making a living by selling his amps.
I don't want to tantalize anybody here by presenting a raving review of 8P. But one word, believe me, 8P is the best headphone amp I ever heard. It is definitely better than Wugang T2A, Opera Cyber 20, better in some way than Headroom Maxed Home, and much better than the headphone jack of my DENON CD player. It is absolutely neutral, detailed, full, and smooth. And due to the 12-tube output, it is able to drive low impedance headphones such as RS1 and AT W100.
Well, if you are serious about Yeli 8P, let me know and I am more than happy to be help.
