I am using rockbox, could this be the reason why? when i plug in the charger it flashes between rockbox and apple screens for when its charging. It keeps restarting, its strange.

Shut down the iPod (hold down play/pause until it shuts down completely), reboot the iPod back to the original Apple firmware (hold down 'menu'..until you see "loading original firmware...").. now you will be able to charge it.... hope that helps
