alcohol can sometimes make music sound a bit like cupped hands over the ears, resulting in turning up the volume. for me it also speeds up time, so songs seem shorter, and the rhythm faster.

i find a clean orderly listening room and a comfy chair go a long way.

Interestingly, alcohol has been found to reduce the damage caused by high volume noise exposure. I almost always play my music louder after a few beers.

Clean your ears regularly with an ear bud (I think this is what it is called). Be careful not to put it too far into your ears or push the wax back in, otherwise you may do more harm then good.

I am serious, last week my mate thought he had gone deaf in his left ear when he woke up in the morning.

He went to his local doctor who discovered a disgusting amount of wax inside! He flushed it all out with some kind of solution.

Ears are self cleaning. Really. They are.

Unusual cases of clogging will be best cared for by a professional.

Popelka MM. Cruickshanks KJ. Wiley TL. et al. Moderate alcohol consumption and hearing loss: A protective effect. Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Vol. 48(10)(pp 1273-1278), 2000
This article says that moderate alcohol consumption shows a mild protective effect against age-related hearing loss; However, prolonged heavy drinking (4+ 'drinks' / day) is related to high-frequency loss.

If you want a really wacked-out way to "improve" the sound of your rig:

(Tho' apparently the freezing thing can work.)

I've tried this a bunch of times... every time, the doctor says my ears are already clear and don't need flushing out. Can't get 'em to do it.

You can DIY with a glue gun and a bucket of caustic soda!
