Oops my mistake. I wish I had realized that at the meet (I always hear about half of what someone tells me). I would have done some more critical listening. That's virtually a seperate case for the steps as well. Nice design. Again Alex, your L-3000's just blew me away! What an incredible pair of headphones, mulveling brags about them with good reason.

I wish I could've stayed for more than 2-3 hours!

I got to listen to a couple things, but I wanted to try the Stax Omegas and K1000 and... *list continues*
As in the past, it was a good learning experience and a big thank you to Alex for making it happen!

I only now realize how much I need a good amp...

If you guys liked the bubble wrap CDP, you shoulda seen the dac before he put it together in that case. Custom made case in less than what? 24 hours Alex? Im always impressed with your work

Ok, Stan, just this once 4 pictures are NOT worth 1000 words...

Alex, care to give a technical run-down, or at least a link to that evil place where ya'll discuss this? Or, more accurately, how much it'll cost to build one? And, no, I'm not winding my own transformers....

Hi swt61, is that your Goldrings and K340s I see in some of the pics?? So no one got anything positive to say about the Goldrings.. or maybe completely overshadowed by all the excellent gear there... such a pity really... they are excellent phones at the price they can be gotten for..

Make that two of us. From Dallas and very dissapointed I couldn't come. I really would've enjoyed listening to your impressions & experiences the equipment.

Next time, hopefully next time--especially if you hold it at the anheuser building again!

I can't really say much that would add to what has already been said. I had a blast Saturday getting to check out several headphone/amps/cdp that my wallet and my fiance would never forgive me for if I even attempted to purchase. Lots of nice people, but then what do you expect, this is Texas after all :p

I hope you guys got to pick up the Mod Effect cds I left. I should have told everybody before I left that they were there for free for people to check out. Of better yet, set them next to the pizza when it showed up :p

Can't wait for the next meet. I should have more "repectable" gear by then and hopefully have a better grasp on my Foobar setup for the PC side of then hobby.

My only regret was being too shy to really get to check out all the gear.

Mark: Thanks again for letting me preview your RS-2's as mine haven't shown up yet. And thank you for the burn-in tip for them. I would have been pissed if I got them and they sounded like poo after spending that kind of money. But then again I am still "new" to this grade of listening.

OK too many of you are being either lazy or shy. Let's here some more impressions. You don't have to have the audiophile dictionary memorized, we'll be happy hearing your thoughts in your own words. I know Jeff (black T-shirt) and Mark (mach46) must be looking in. Don't be shy guys.

They didn't get much attention. There were far too many tempting headphones calling out to everyone. Also I think I'd need to roll tubes for the Goldrings, the ones I like for the K340's aren't the best for the Goldrings. Was hoping my discrete amp module for my Zhaolu would show up in time, but Wei hasn't gotten them in yet. I must say they're getting less headtime with me since recieving my Darkvoice amp. My K340's have bass now. I still think they're a fun can when sourced and amped correctly.

That's what I forgot! I saw them and then got distracted.

I don't what it is about me and meets. I love going, but I seem to have a limited capacity for doing the sort of intense listening that comes so naturally for me when I'm playing music at home. I don't know if it's all the people around, or the noise, or what, but I find myself just yakking the day away.

I wouldn't call it yakking. The discussions were a highlight for me. Maybe we should get notepads and do our listening for the first half, then set the chairs in a circle and compare notes and have a big discussion for the second half.

the meet was incredible. for those who havent been to this type of an event, take full advantage and go if it comes to a town near you. when it comes to the gear, i had tons of questions that haunted me. many times in reading reviews published and on various sites. you get a chance to read the ups and downs of various kits. in those ups and downs, i wouldnt get a good sense of how a good 300 dollar something would compare to a good 2000 dollar something. in going to the meet i got to answer many of those questions. thanks again fellas.

ok, lets see. Lots of pics to post. Finally got Alex to help host these. Didnt realize i had so many pics, so i made em small. I can post for all bigger ones for everyone upon request. Just post if you want a bigger picture

01.JPG

Lots of custom cables here at this meet, especially the 650 cables (cardas missing). great stuff but by general consensus we all came toethe conclusion that Alex's ([AK]Zip's) were vastly superior
600smile.gif

Here was my preference after running them all:
[AK]Zip - BY FAR
Silver (slightly better than blue)
Blue
Cardas (very disapointed.... again)

02.JPG

03.JPG

One thing we all forgot about. Alex's minified pint. Lets not forget the small portables just cuz there were stax, l3000's, and baby orpheus ok? Gotta admit this thing wiped the floor with the other portable amps.

SIDENOTE: i didnt get much of a chance to give the minified pint the time it deserved and as such anyone order the minified pint kit Alex is selling? im really curious to hear everyones opinions. I wouldnt mind putting one together for work but wouldnt mind some more feedback from the community.

04.JPG

to be mine soon
very_evil_smiley.gif
just waiting for check to clear bank. Baby HE60+HEV70 you are mine!
05.JPG

Top: My maxxed PPA and the Senn amp, Middle: Alex's fabulous millet, Bottom: Dac 101.

Btw, the maxxed PPA and the millet sound really close to each other. Definately a treat both ways.

10.JPG

Al (pabbi1's) custom 650 cups.... though must admit not my taste... u dont muffle the sound of an open can pair
11.JPG

Me and Al's heated debate (and Headfi's) 600 vs 650. honestly what veil? i still hold that 650's w/ [AK]Zip custom cable > 600 with said cable.... but lets not get into that fight
wink.gif

12.JPG

Stax goodness as rob is trying to hide them from me
13.JPG

bubble Wraped player thats gotten everyone attention
14.JPG

me stealing them outa robs case while Alex distracts him.. wait this is not evidence against me...
