Hi All:
I think the Fixup Mini which came about 2 1/2 weeks ago has finally broken-in! It sounds somewhat like the SuperMini after about 3 1/2 weeks of break-in. (SuperMini's finally stabilized after about 5 weeks which is the original version, before the feedback loop upgrade version. Fixup doesn't think it will need additional break-in after the upgrade—hopefully it won't.) The Mini with 9v (8.4v NIMH in my case) sounds like the SuperMini only in timbre. The Mini really comes into its own at the higher voltage. The 9v flavor adds the zest; gobs of transparency and air -even the bass is transparent. "Drums sound like drums" says Verne, my accountant, whose main claim to fame is drummer for the Everly Bros. Brushed cymbals are clear, distinct and sweet- you can hear the air and spit moving through Miles' trumpet; ( I think you might need the Ety4s's for that!) a trumpet that never gets over-brassy but yet still can have that brass "bite". Female vocals are there with their natural sibilances intact. Amazing what has gotten onto those CD's. I'm hearing sounds and overtones that I never heard on some pieces before. I also believe that it may be passing sounds that we may not be able hear, but speaks to the body—Yeah sure, don't laugh; doesn't the brain have something to do with that too? I think there just might be something like that going on here! I just find the sound through the little mini system so seductive. (the "Like Water for Chocloate" effect?) The "Mini sound" is well balanced , detailed, truthful and erring on the side of good taste , warmth and Peace and Love. This is the AD823 recipe which yields the most involving and fun to listen to sound (My opinon of course.) The Mini allows for interchageable opamps and when you switch (to the OPA2134) the difference is loud and clear—It has air. It has bass and hf extension. It has lots of detail. It doesn't have soul. The whole deal just goes flat. The sound goes quite darker with less air and transparency. I think that it eliminates that sense of place—where am I? Big or small room? It seems to leave you in a big black digital hole
Regards,
Bob

PS: The main negative about the Mini— the Mickey Mouse way to put the 9V in. It needs a proper connector—can effect the sound you know, if you have a bad connection the amp doesn't get fed enough and goes bright and wimpy!
