I was in Chicago this weekend, so I thought I would stop by Music Direct to check out their store. Knowing this is an internet music distributor, I wasn't expecting too much.
Music Direct is located in a primarily industrial area, between Comisky Park and downtown. I drove by the store a few times, missing it each time due to the lack of a sign. After double checking the address, I parked my car next to a gentleman relieving himself in an alley and walked to the front door...which ended up being locked. I walked around the corner to the loading dock, where I was met by hundreds of boxed hi-fi goods and three very nice guys taking a smoke break. I asked them what the deal was - is this a store or just a disribution building. One guy said it was indeed a store and I could enter through the loading dock. The front door is locked, but does have a door bell.
So I enter the store and I am immediately in the middle of a few racks of albums and cd's, one stereo set up (I think it was a BAT amp and Legacy speakers), a handful of people taking orders on the phone and one guy packing a box with record cleaning fluid. I walked around the room a few times to see if there were listening rooms, or record displays, but found nothing. Not one person offered to help me, or even asked why I was walking around aimlessly in there office.
So I left.
Chicago people, did I miss something? Is there actually a store there, or just an office with a few things scattered about?
P.S. Maybe they knew I was a Cheesehead and chose to ignore me
