*shrug*. I never heard such a thing. Zhaolu is DAC first headphone amp second.

That's what I thought so too...(same with alot of the major DAC players)

Man, these threads, they are a killer for Zhaolu nuts who have been familiar with this DAC for months. Ok, here's where people seem to be confused. The Zhaolu DAC comes with a headphone amp built in, it's a basic dual opamp design, nothing special but not a total piece of crap. Zhaolu offers an upgraded headphone amp module, a fully discrete design and I've got one. I have spoke very highly of it in recent months, so much so I think people would like to puke if I bring it up again. Briefly: the amp kicks ass big time. For it's measly $40 price it's a gimme, a no brainer, a major f'ing steal. Is it as good as an M3? Who the f*#k knows? I find it to be as satisfying as my Mapletree Purist tube amp in it's own unique way as it sounds different. So, one time I think someone asked if it would be better than an M3. And that's how this all got started, just someone asked the question is all. Nobody said the Zhaolu upgraded amp was better, there was only speculation on the part of others who claimed one would be nuts to assume such a thing. I myself have no idea. But for $40 the amp is much more of a steal than the Zhaolu DAC itself, I'm not shi$#ing.

This thread is getting filled with fluff

Thanks Sean for keeping the fluff out and getting this thread back on track.

Thomas,

Are the two cards you mentioned better for taking measurements than a SB X-Fi? (I notice that EMU is owned by Creative)

I currently don't own a sound card, but am interested in obtaining one with the idea that I would use it for audio measurements. Any advice?

Thanks,

Ben

I have a couple of AD8620s, and I'd like to try them out, but hesitated when I saw your post. Looking at the spec sheet, isn't the maximum input voltage 27.3V? Or am I reading the sheet wrong?

If I did read it wrong, would the failure simply cook the op-amp or would there be other possible side-effects?

Nope, you're right, +/-13V it is. I was looking at the input differential, which is the same as the supply voltage.

AD recommends the use of an LDO (whatever that is!) to step down from 15V.

*EDIT* I asked Eddie about this issue, and received the following reply:

There is a psu in blue colour which sit below the main pcb (red colour one). You can found there having three
trimport which can adjust the votage by an screw driver.
Start from right hand side the first one is adjusting +15V and the second is for -15V and the one which sit alone is adjust of 5V. Unplug the power connector which is 5 pin sit on left hand side of main pcb. Then adjust the psu less than +-11V for your opa is max +-13V .
There is a 3 pin blue colour which connect to headphone amp ,you can use a volt meter to check there .The middle is Zero. You should adjust the right one to +11v and left one -11v.

ONE MORE THING MAKE SURE THE DIRECTION OF OPA INSERT OTHERWISE THE AD-1852 WORN OUT RIGHT THE WAY !!!!!!

Not physically. The op-amp is physically compatible either way, so it's easy to insert it backwards. There is a little divot on one side to identify polarity, and prevent you from inserting backwards. If it is put in wrong, I think it bakes the op-amp.
