Its clear that the sennheiser hd600/580 and the grado rs-1 are the head-fi favorites. What are the favorite headphones besides these?

The AKG K501 has a very loyal following among SOME here at head-fi. Of course, there are some who disagree. For my money, they are the best value out there.

Very Good....4 cans on a 5 can scale.

I agree. It seems as if the vast majority of the few complaints about these phones have been comfort related.

HI: I don't find the koss-35 uncomfortable but in case some do the koss portapro are very comfortable and are my main portable cans.

i'd say the ksc-35's and the hd600/580 are the tops here. i also feel that the ety 4p/s has a much bigger following than any of the grado line.

and for amps i'd say:

K1000 - my HD600 are essentially retired. I'm just keping them for emotional attachment, and for when I'm working on my amps.

P.S.: Besides the other signature line I could also recommend the Beyerdynamic DT990Pro/250 for bass lovers, the AKG K501 for space lovers, the Grado SR80 for upfront sound with loads of highs lovers and maybe the Grado RS-2 as a very fine sounding headphone for Grado comfort issue tolerants, who have a big wallet.

I think Beyer Dt250-80 are also many head-fiers' favourites because they are very good for portable and sounds good even without amp. I think they are really one of the best portable can for rock music and even pop!

I think the poll Nicwix conducted in April ought to be interesting in this context. The phones we own aren't necessarily our favorite ones but it's an indication.
