Good point, I forgot about the 25-1's use in TV (always see it on players' heads in on-field interviews). This is the first adequate explanation I've heard for its price point.

just a little question about the "Smartwrap", will a Shure E4c Cord will fit them ? cuse i find their cord to be a bit thick so it might not fit and maybe I should try the "Syncwrap", which is a bit bigger in its lock socket.
thanks very much and again, a very well written review !

Markl, did your cans get more speedy overtime? Less bass bloat too right?

Hi BigD, actually, yes, I do think that there is less bass bloat, it's becoming less of an issue. I'll do more listening to see about the speed thing.

Mr. Shadow, I've been having some problems with the smartwrap. It held fine for the first few days, but lately the cord keeps unravelling itself or slipping out of the "clips" on the end. It's apin to have to re-wrap the cord when you're out jogging.

This is one of the hazards of rushing a review, in retrospect, I'm not 100% sure the smartwrap is the answer to the K81's long cord problem. Maybe one of our headphone recablers can offer a service where they simply shorten the cord to your specification. That's probably labor-intensive and too expensive though.

Just wanted to add that thanks to my positive experience with the K81, thanks to the generosity of a fellow Head-Fier, I'll soon be trying out the K701 for a few weeks. If the lowly K81 is so good, I'm just dieing to hear what AKG's new flagship sounds like, and it looks like I'll get that chance.
