Lots of visual differences between the two - logo size, wire gauge, general construction, mini-jack design, typos on the packaging, etc..

Not even close to iPod bud quality!

I feel sorry for all of the suckers that think these are real and do not have the opportunity to listen to legit CX300's.

looks like there are packaged fakes!

OTOH - how much will sound improve with "better" silicon or foam tips? like these:

and is it worth all the trouble getting it?

I picked up a pair of the CX-300 from J&R for $44 delivered and have to say there are great, one problem though the wire going to the left ear just above the "Y" has split open.. They are only 3 weeks old, anyone else see this problem? Wrote Sennheiser tonight about this, honestly right out of the box the super thin wires worried me but the sound is incredible, highs are crystal clear and with the large adapters I get tons of deep bass.. Back to my question, anyone else have their wires split open yet on their Sennheiser CX-300 earbuds??

Paul,

No, mine have been very sturdy. I wear them to bed each night, and when I wake up, they're who knows where--off the bed, under something, ya never know. And the rubber buds have only fallen off 2 times. I've had mine for many months... I think you got a defective set if they're coming apart.

Proof again that eBay is basically full of counterfeit merchandise. What kills me is that this seller still has 96% positive feedback. In my view, eBay is making it very easy for these guys to keep ripping people off.

i have to say, i threw a number of songs at the CX300 that can easily cause sibilance and i heard 0. i mention this because i've read several comments about the sibilance of the senns. not hearing it at all in mine.

i would be interested if someone suggests a song where they heard sibilance in there senns. i would like to try it just out of curiousity.

Just to add tro the general debate on authenticity - I got mine from an Amazon reseller and they were a very good price - half the shop cost with carriage.

Upon receipt I checked them over and there was no visible difference to the retail ones but I asked the reseller if to confimr they were genuine just to see the response - which was:

"Thanks for your email. We won't risk ourself sell fake Sennheiser product as it is against laws and can be jailed if caught. Therefore we confirm all the products we offered for sell on Amazon is 100% genuine and original. Thank you".

Funnily enough I took no confidence from this

I have to say - a week in I am not enjoying my CX300's.

My ears don't seem to want to adapt to them - I wanted something that was going to be an improvement on my stock ipod buds but without any payback in comfort and on this front they fail.

I can not cope with them in my ears for more than an hour then I get slight earache.

Also, even though they sound better than standard buds there is soomething in the sound sig that I am not happy with - I think its because the sound is not very warm. I am not an audiophile and cant comment on mids and highs etc it just dowsnt seem that musical. I cant really explain.

I was really hoping this would end the search but I guess not. I dont think I can trust any other canal phones to be any better comfort wise.

the fit of IEMs and canalphones can be such a different experience from one to another. guess it's one of the things that makes us unique.

there's been some gathering attention at the PKx line of earbuds. i'm hoping to get a listen at the upcoming NYC meet but word is they sound pretty darn good. you might want to take a look in that direction if earbuds have fit you well enough in the past.

that or keep on trying or go with custom molds.

sorry you haven't had much luck.

If you believe the rumours then even Amazon is not too pedantic about where it is getting its stocks from.

I bought today some CX300 from this seller, headfones4u, on eBxx.co.uk. 99.9% pos rating. The price is about the same as on Amazon uk but he ships internationally.

He even lists the tell tale signs of the fake ones in the item description. I also emailes him to confim authenticity and got almost the same reply as the one shown a few posts above this one (though his English was not too good). I guess he would not even have bothered to reply if his were fakes....time will tell.

Is there any different between the white and the black cx300?
the dutch bol.com store has the black/silver ones for 39.95 and the white ones are 55.95, so i think the white ones are the newer glossy version and the black silver the non-glossy one.

I've already order a white pair from apple store for 46.95 with shipping. i've heard the glossy one are the only white ones.

But are there any sound different between glossy and non-glossy cx300's?

I'm on the same boat as you my friend.

I still own my Sony 51 Utopia with the cable cords shredded down to it's skin. I was saving up for Super.fi 5 Pros but I gave the 300 a try.

I can't seem to keep them in my ears for more than 30 minutes as it would give me earaches. I don't know why because I've tried my friends Super.fi 3 & it was a perfect comfort.

I simply returned them & keep saving up for the UE.
