Basically i would like to remove the vocals from a few tracks so i can have the backing track, basically a karaoke version. I'm actually going to using the tracks as backing for tv show spoof videos. So basically i was wondering if anybody knew of any audio software that can get rid of the vocals, i am a mac user (iMac G5) but i do have windows 2000 installed as well so either platform will be alright, although mac is preferred.

I don't think thats possible. Only on multi-channel recordings where the vocals are recorded on a separate channel could they be manipulated, and only on those recodings. CD's released for the public have integrated channels so that adjusting the vocals would adjust all of the music. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is correct.

Lead vocals are often placed exactly in the middle of the virtual stage of studio productions.
In order to achieve this the mixing engineer has to put the voice into both channels at exactly the same volume.
In theory all what a software has to do in order to extract the lead vocals is to compare the left and the right channel and to delete anything that's the same in both channels.
Once my girlfriend asked me to look for a solution for her karaoke needs, and I've tested software that claimed to delete lead vocals, but in most cases it didn't work.Sometimes other parts of the music were also deleted, and often the parts of the lead vocals mixed into the right and left channel are not perfectly equal, resulting in no effect at all or in stuttering.
Finally I gave up.
