At what point did you say "This sounds really good!"?

I actually have to force myself to say "this is really good". I sold my Martin Logans in Atlanta last year, hoping to go back and get better speakers then. But I got married and pregnant, and also stuck in Mexico thanks to CNN firing my ass

. So, no new electrostatic speakers for me.
I was thinking on asking JMT to make me one of those Althoids amps, since I had some extra money around. Like five seconds after I got JMT response, my wife told me that we needed a new car. I was hoping to get a small one, but somehow I got convinced

of buying a new SEAT (It's a Spanish car, very cool, I have to say). I still had some money left for CD's and an MP3 CD player, but I went with my wife to this expo on baby products at the World Trade Center. We ended up with a new bed for the baby, a bunch of clothes and toys, and a 20K a year insurance policy for our baby education

.
After that, I still had some money for a few CDs, but my wife decided that we needed a new bedroom, one of those things you put in the kitchen to clean up the air, and a new closet.
So now, I only have a couple Mexican pesos, listening to one of my really old CD's, using my SR-60 and a Headbanger amp. I know I can do better, bu t rigth now I am forced to say to myself "This sounds really good". And I think I am going to have to repeat that at least until the baby goes to college and gets a job.

So, yeap, this sounds really good to me.

(Disclaimer: I am happy with my marriage and impending fatherhood. It's just that money doesn't seem to last as long as I remember)

JMT,
I do believe that the WOW factor with the Senns is a direct result of the little red velcro thingy that Jude included with the headphones. I know, they aren't RCA caps .....

I have the RCA CAPS from JUDE and the Velcro strap.

and what do you know.... My source is DCM370 with HD600 too !
(except with xcanv2)

So yes, Hearing is believeing ~!

I don't know, what got me in recent weeks that really wowed me, was not the "this sounds really good", I had that before, whenever I had the right CD for the right system, no, with my AKG 501 + Headroom Little (using, yes, crossfeed & filter) + my trusted NAD 502 (thanks, MacDEF) I have found myself for the first time getting completely immersed in the music, not a thought about the source, the headphones, the amp, not a thought about this sounds good/great/fantastic, no eargasm because of beatiful highs/mids/bass, just music, completely forgetting about the system. And that is what I want out of a good system. Will I upgrade eventually? Sure, I do read Head-Fi & Stereophile, so there is not a chance in hell of being satisfied forever. But for now, "I don't think about my system at all" is the biggest compliment I can make to any system.

For me, it was after coming home from the HE01 show and beginning to write my long review comparing the Stax Omega2, Sennheiser Orpheus, and Headroom Blockhead/HD600. I just put on my RS-2 which was plugged into my HA-1 which was plugged into my soundcard. Computer sound is definitely inferior no matter how good your soundcard is, especially compared to the amazing system I heard in New York! And yet I just stopped writing for a second and thought to myself -- "I enjoy this rig more than anything right now." I soon got the MS Pro after that, then the Creek 5250, then my speakers and speaker cable. No, it didn't stop my urge to upgrade! Nothing ever will.

When I hooked up my Monarchy 18b DAC and DIP mk.I to my Pioneer DV-333. Put on my grado SR-325's and popped in Radiohead's "OK Computer". HO-LEE-SHIZ-NIT!

I wasn't expecting that much of a difference. Of course, I might have the same reaction when I get some REAL cables (AES/EBU and Digital Coax instead of two crappy RCA's).
