I just applied the tape-mod to my MS-1s with scotchtape. The results are pleasing

The other way of testing is to use thin plastic -wrap it around the bowl and just tape over the overlap - no actual adhesion to the pad

Black duct tape worked best for me. Same effect, but nice, glossy, textured look. Its not even embarrassing in public (although Grados do look pretty awkward as is)

Scotch tape works pretty well too. The adhesive on the kind I used is pretty weak, so I don't have to be worried about ripping foam off my bowls.

I like the electrical tape I used. The one I used didn't have such an adhesive backing so I'm not too worried about it leaving any residue nor having it not be reversible. Mod works great! Makes the MS2i look a bit tacky though... =\

I have had RS-2s for a total of 2 hrs now . . (they just arrived from Headroom) and I just tried this mod with scotch tape.
Wow - it does make a difference.

I like it quite a bit.

I think i am going to let the RS-2s burn in for a few days before I decide to leave the tape on - but if you want a bit lower frequency bass, this works.

I also need to find a better tape - all I have int he office is a milky colored scotch tape. Maybe a black masking tape or clear scotch would look better.

I used to have taped bowls with my SR-225's but my RS-2's give the same amount or more bass with unmodded bowls.

Trust me, with enough burn-in and good amp, your RS-2's will give a good amount of bass without tapes.
