I'm running Win2K Pro, so that shouldn't be a problem. $20 for the card ain't gonna hurt, but I can't test it as I have no other firewire devices. It would break my heart to connect the iPod and not connect... It's a gamble I guess, but the iPod would make a lot of sense for me.

Hope this isn't too old to be useful. I switched! After 20 years as a loyal mac user I got disgusted with OSX and bought a windows machine. For the ipod I have been using xplay, and it works great! It even lets me drop vcards into the contact book on the ipod.

Foolishly I bought a copy of Musicmatch, thinking that it now supports ipod. Nope, that requires an Apple only version! Typical. Now trying to decide if radio MX is worth the money that I spent on Musicmatch. Also have to try out MP3-pro.

I do really miss itunes. It is a nice piece of software. Did they ever work out the web radio issue?

I didn't know there was a web radio issue - it's always just worked for me. What didn't it do for you? (Don't look at a Mac again! You might be sorry if you see Jaguar.)

For MP3 management on MacOS X I want to recommend ID3X - a great batch renamer. If you want your collection to stay where it's put it's very nice to have the Mp3 tags matching the directory structure.

I understand how upsetting OS X can be for some of us... I for one was totally unconvinced (by the public beta, then by 10.1, and the lack of apps)... until I got a new iBook. At about double the clock speed (700MHz versus 333, more RAM too), X really started to become usable. And very stable for me, too.

I also got Jaguar on the day it came out (education discount) and it does speed up a bit more.

Trying out Audion right now.. Gawd I'm a spoilt brat.

Hi aeberbach. Seems like itunes came with support for kerbango or somesuch. It disappeared before I got a chance to use it. What music servers are you using?

Greetings leon. I will take a look at jaguar, but it would have to be a very different system to resolve all of my frustrations. On the other hand I don't have a problem using my ti-book as an audio component (as long as I don't have to try to do actual work with it). Maybe I will hook it up as a car stereo front end.

I clicked on "Radio" and all the stations are laid out in genre categories. Hundreds of them. Was the version you had iTunes 2? This is iTunes 3, released during MWNY.

(I feel like one of those dopey Mac users who keeps saying "but it just works...")

the web radio is unbelievable...at least in iTunes3.

hundreds of stations by genre...can't seem to record them though in mp3

couldn't be simpler, yet works great.

anyhow...i bought an iBook, which i've been using the past week.

i also don't want to sound like one of those ads, but suffice to say..for those of interested in portable music, i am totally sold. iTunes is just that good.

my iPod comes any day now!!

Greg:

Just curious, what frustrations did you have? I ask because I was initially not impressed with OS X, but the more time I spent with it, the more I realized I was just used to OS 9 and Windows. After I came to that realization and started working with X, I loved it. Jaguar is a *major* upgrade, as well. Best OS I've ever seen, hands down.

I got a 10Gb iPod today and the device is cool, the only thing
I am not so happy is the quality of sound. I don't I shouldn't
expect so much on Mp3 but still, I think those EQ options are
quite useless, the bass are so weak even when i switch the
bass booster mode on. I have a Grado SR225, and perhaps
I need to get one of those Airheads amp to make the whole
"iPod experience" more complete? Any suggestion?
