Nothing I have is identical .... so it would be an even bigger pain to balance two of my amps. I like single ended ..... I like single ended ..... I like single ended!!!

keep going, you might even believe it soon.

would you consider the MPX3 Slam a worthwhile upgrade over the PPX3 version, at this point? i'm just thinking out loud here, don't mind me.

The SLAM MPX3 sounds like a MPX3 with more speed and dynamics and has an added and ADDICTING sense of ease that comes from the extra power output ..... for a short description.

The bass is very tight and tuneful and the amp has lots more snap and drive. Plus the MPX3 refinement is still there and atleast equal to the 6/12sn7 models IMO.

But the SLAM PPX3 is an awesome amp. I still love the SLAM PPX3 and I want another one. But the SLAM MPX3 does it all. If you were getting a PPX3 or MPX3 as your first Singlepower amp I would definitely say get a SLAM according to what you could afford. Now to go from a SLAM PPX3 to a SLAM MPX3 ..... I dont know. These amps are both so good. Interestingly, the MPX3 sounds good with any of the 5687's where I liked the Tung Sol D getter much better than the other 5687's with the PPX3. The Tung Sol tube is still my favorite but the difference seems less pronounced with the MPX3.

I guess I dont know yet. I had the same reaction to the SLAM MPX3 as I did with the SLAM PPX3 .... I am absolutely thrilled with the sound quality. Keep your SLAM PPX3 and get a SLAM MPX3 too.

Earl let's hear it, MPX3 6/12SN7 or MPX3 SLAM? In terms of clarity transparency and the richness of sound reproduced.

i wasn't seriously considering replacing my PPX3 Slam with an MPX3 Slam, but you never know, headfi being headfi.

i think i'm set, amp wise, for a good long time.

Reks,

The
confused.gif
was because I have had the SLAM MPX3 one day and I really dont know if its worth upgrading .... especially as good as the SLAM PPX3 sounds.

Hows the 600? I was using the cd3000 with a MPX3 fitted with the 6BL7's and that amp/ tube combo drove them very well. I actually liked the cd3000 with the woody/ recable. Are we slowly changing personalities?

I typed you a response and head-fi bailed on me for a moment ..... and I lost the post. Short answer is they are both very close. There is less difference between the SLAM MPX3 and MPX3 ..... than there is between the SLAM PPX3 and the PPX3. The SLAM may have a slight clarity edge ..... transparency is to close to call ..... the 6SN7 has a little more richness. The biggest difference is the SLAM has a greater sense of ease and more speed and dynamics. The 6SN7 throws a little bigger soundstage though. I dont think you can go wrong with either.

i am really enjoying the HD600s. i do believe i'll be picking up a set of Senns after i get my CD-E5, though i'm not quite sure what cable i'll be getting. should be a good suplement for the HP-2. the woody/recable must have changed the CD3000s sound more than i thought if you are enjoying them!

Earl I should have my MPX3 Slam soon, but do you think with my Grado RS-1's there would be a much larger differance between the MPX3/MPX3-Slam?

Mikhail is sending me one of his new adapters, so I can use the 6sn7/6cg7 in my MPX3 so now I can switch between the two

I love Singlepower.

I think there likely will be a larger difference with grados. The extra current drive of the 5687's really helps. At the Ohio meet the week before I thought the SLAM PPX3 sounded the best of any of my Singlepowers driving the PS-1.

I havent mentioned the adapters because I wanted to make sure that he actually ended up making some. I now know that he has made some .... and they turned out to look very professional and work perfectly ..... per Mikhail. The 6cg7 for gain will definitely improve speed and dyamics. I dont know which tube you will ultimately prefer but the option to choose different tubes is
cool.gif

I am going to have him make me a couple adapters for a new tube you havent even heard about yet!

These adapters are coming from Mikhail .... not where I sourced them from. Get in line ..... I want some for some tubes I have never tried.

i'm guessing that it means Mikhail can include some adaptors when i get my slam modded, which is tres cool. is Mikhail making 7n7 adaptors, or just the 6CG7? i'm assuming that he can make 7n7 adaptors if he is making adaptors for tubes you haven't heard, which would have to be pretty far out since you are the tube guy.
