New Xin Amps available

So the upgrade you need to send Xin you old amp and he will keep it and give you a new one?

So is he selling the old one through his website?

And his old upgrade policy was that gave him the number inside and got to keep the old amp? Why do we think there is a change?

That's exactly the way I understand it.

I thought that was his old policy. If he really sells the old ones through his website again I think he should (and probably will) make it clear that they're used units - I wouldn't want to buy used ones without knowing it.
BTW YGPM, Chris. (I love acronyms *g*)

@Jamato8
That's very interesting! I never thought it would be possible, as Tbln indicated, I would have thought that with the different design of the SR-71 the sound would be too different for any OpAmp to compensate. I guess I'll have to add the AD8610 to my list *g*.

Ciao,
Marcus

From Xin's site:
"In the last few weeks, I designed 20 PCB layouts for V5 (a-u), now I'm running out letters for V5. Therefore, I have to name it V6.

The other reason is: V6 for cars mean 6 cylinders. There are exactly 6 sockets in V5(6), 2 dual, 4 single, making up a powerful 6 cylinder audio engine!"

I have heard more than just a few headphone amps, and not one has been as clean and neutral as the HA-2, including the Headroom Maxed Out Home Reference!

Why so defensive about the HA-2? I wasn't putting it down, and I didn't suggest that the SM3 should replace it. But I think you will be surprised by how close they are in SQ. I certainly was, but I have no plans to replace my HA-2--with anything.

Not to be argumentative, but you do realize that the pictures, particularly of the innards, are entirely different, right? All I wrote is that the link is to the older version, not that the link doesn't still include much pertinent information.

Didn't mean to come off as defensive at all. Sure the SM3 will sound awesome. Like you, I LOVE my HA-2

Perhaps those willing to trade in their SM3/4SW for $150 credit could do their fellow Head-Fiers a great service and sell them here for that amount. You wouldn't lose anything and those buying them would get an amazing bargain.

I can understand why the economics involved don't allow Xin to offer a higher trade-in allowance, but I'll bet most of us would laugh at an offer of 150 bucks for these fantastic little jewels.

Not quite a Catch-22, but it must be running around 20.86.

Well, at least Dr. Xin is a first rate engineer. Besides, I think the analogy is a Polish invention.

I'd think the SM3 would still be worth considerably more than $150 in the used market. After all, there aren't many amps that compete with it even at $250...

Or could it be that obscuring the opamp labels serves the same function as the curtain in "The Wizard of Oz"?

Just a point to ponder.

For sure. I'd sell mine for $250 and buy the SM3-6 outright for $350. But $150? Nope, I ain't that philanthropic.

Hello Everyone

I'm new the world of headphone amplifiers, and I've heard a lot about the Xin amps. I recently purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD-650s and am currently using them without any amplification. Do you think the SuperMini will be adequate to power my phones, or should I go ahead and buy the SuperMacro? Keep in mind that my budget is somewhat limited.

Thanks a lot guys.

The supermini would work fine with the 650, but you should go ahead and get a balanced dynamight and a new cable. Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet.
