You might have already seen this recent thread, but there is lots of discussions on tubes for the EMP:

It seems that lots of people favor the Electroharmonix gold pins, so there may be something there. They are also only $22 per tube.

This is a great deal.
if Telefunkens are really sounding similar to the Siemens. I will get rid of it....

Has anyone tried the Grado HP-2 with the EMP or AE? I'd be very interested in whether they would work well together. Thanks!

LOL, tell me about it. I bought my EMP for 250 Euro at e-bay. The only one I saw in more than a year. And now I think about the AE.

I hope the Black Rose is coming soon and will save me from this insanity.

So did the EMP convinve you were a tube man after all then, kurt?

Sounds like you down for the fuzzies...

Oski>I tried the the hp-2's with the emp a.e. I hated the sound. It sounded even more lifeless and dull then they usually do. I only tried it with stock tubes. After that I couldn't bear going that road again.

If I had the patience then maybe tube rolling the emp or the a.e version might produce a more acceptable sound.

zanth>I can't stand the telefunken/sylvannia combo for some weird reason. I prefer the stock output tubes and the sylvannia.

Though maybe a tube with a sweet sound would certainly suit my taste's more.

Yup. Love this little bugger.
And I even prefer the RS-1 over the PS-1 for most recordings.

Kurt>I only like the Ps-1 out of the emp anniv. But I prefer the Rs-1's over it.

I am looking forward to your impressions on the black rose against the EMP regarding warmth and musicality.

Stop the insanity. (sic) Ok folks, showtime. The l3000s are now certified according to the Nicola school of break-in thought. Have been listening to Nana Mouskouri for the last half hour. Amped by the EMP. Transporting, walls melt away. Why would I ever need any more than this? You know the drill.

Build quality is much stronger than pro version.
You should have kept yours or sold it to me.

I have always found sellers to be shady. I just bought mine brand new and this was supposedly one of the 'last few' left. I think there may be about 15 or more so unaccounted for in the US at least.

good to see you, Neil.
Has your RP6-DQ been sold? That's really a great amp. I had hardly bought it from Mr. Rudi before I set my heart on earmax pro.
I guess what he mean is this is the only one left and was taken out from Mr. Brocksieper. But anyways, i believe there should be still some available from the retailers all over the world.

I've had a few offers on the RP6 but they were from individuals with 230V requirements. I'd rather not send it to Rudi, get it redone and incur an additional fee for the buyer. I agree with you though, the RP6 is an amazing amp, especially for the Senns.

My intention with the Earmax is to get a single amp for my dynamic phones and I believe it to be more universally compatible (and good with the L3000's as well) than the RP6. My plan is to have 1 solid dynamic headphone rig and 1 solid electrostatic rig. I've been really digging on the HE60's but I'm sending them back to Gurus tomarrow, although I may end up acquiring a pair myself. I find it a little disconcerting though that the sound of the HE60 only really seems to gell after about a half an hour. I wonder if there is any truth the notion of having to 'charge' the electrostatics for a while, almost like a mini burn in for every listening session. We already know tube amps require this more or less.

As for the RP6, it is still for sale with a price reduction to $850.00 if anyone is interested.

Hi, everyone:
If you guys have both the EMP AE and the earmax pro stock unmark tubes, try to make these two things coming toghther. I found the EMP AE with these tubes amazingly matching with HD600 playing vocal genre. The voice is sweet, thick, warm, speedy and detail. I am trying hard, but There are still a great many tonal characteristics I can't explain. It is something that really surprise me. From what I have experienced the HD600, It brings a very very high level of the sounding and is a great much better than AD2000 and RS1 with the EMP AE. It changes the original style of HD600, retains its advantage and kill the weak. Lets go and try it by yourself. The earmax pro stock unmark tubes are so so cheap I guess, hard to find though. But you may buy it from most of the Earmax Pro owners. Those stock unmark tubes with earmax pro are sounding like slow and fuzzy. So, some NOS, EH and Sovtek tubes are still the advisable upgrade option for EMP owners.

Neil, have you sold your EMP AE? If not, try to get those stock unmark tubes, I am pretty sure you will have something that you have never had before. I can send you my set of these tubes after I get another set of them. Any EMP AE owners(also HD600/6500 owners) cant find those tubes are also welcomed to ask me to send them to you for a test.

regards
Edison

A set of EH, Sovtek, JJ tubes and the EMP AE stock tubes with EMP AE match so well with AD2000 and RS1, but still has nothing to do with the EMP stock tubes with it when driving HD600.
