Ken got his AE from Audio Advancements in NJ, so it's the N.A. version.

AE has landed. The case weighs a ton. Not. Box was so damn heavy I thought I was somebody's power amplifier. Fired it up for about twenty minutes, stock tubes. Feels like a perfect match with the L3000 and I did not feel that with the EMP. No hiss BTW. I'm not going to make the mistake of gushing all over the place as I have in the past. Suffice to say, I'll probably spend a while with this fine amp.

This is the same place I got it. Heart is a great guy, but it took him some time to open up to me and treat me like a customer (once he figured out I was serious)...

Anyway, Enjoy the EMAE! Do you notice a slight buzzing witht the L3k's at all? I have to move the power supply onto certain carpetting to get it to go away.. if I put it on the hardwood, I hear a buzz that varies in volume and intensity...

The amp is nice for the L3k's btw... Im getting ready to do a review shootout between the Earmax AE, Rudistor RP6, Singlepower MPX3 [hopefully], and one other amp I haven't decided yet. I'll be using as judges the HD600 and 650, and the L3k. If anyone wants to donate me another high end phone for this comparison, please PM me. Rudi has requested this review be done, so I will take care to do it comprehensively.

hummmm.....The review sounds great

I am going to sell the EMP and looking for something which can drive the AD2000 really amazingly.....

Rudi's are under my consideration.

BTW, It seems not to be fair to EMP AE with its stock tubes(seimens-philip-seimens) on this review.

I was under the impression that the tubes were telefunken-phillips-telefunken... this is what Hart at Audio Adv told me...

Ideally I'd like at least three sets to roll... but I am also comparing te Rudi RP6 with the stock tubes....

Is this tube microphonics? I wonder if some sort of tube dampers would alleviate this. Rob_N has another thread asking about hum with his EMP.

I currently have Telefunken ECC88 and 12AT7 in my EMP and it's perfectly quiet even if the volume is cranked all the way. I'll try this also with the JJ and EH also when they arrive this weekend.

Actually, has anyone tried tube dampers with their EarMax? Hal-O, Mapelshade Tube Anchors, etc.? What was the result?

I purchased my EA from Hart and the stock tubes had a Jan Philips in the middle position and the outside tubes have been wiped of all markings, however because there is not a diamond in the glass on the bottom between the pins <> I can guarantee you that the stock tubes that came with mine were not Telefunkens.

I have since tried the EHg tubes in all positions, which I prefer over stock, then I rolled in some NOS (what I call plain vanilla Telefunkens) ECC81 in the center and matched ECC88's in the outer positions. These Telefunkens have the sound I was looking for, 3D, realistic non splashy highs, liquid.

By the way....Congratulations on your new EA Ken!

I find the Sound less full with Halos. If there are tubes that sound too full that might be a good thing.
