The plan part is always hard. It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the gear and go crazy trying to listen to everything. My first meet was like that, I was all over the place and only got half-decent impressions on a couple pieces of gear, and even then it wasn't nearly as in-depth as what I get out of meets now. I was looking at the gear list for days and marking down what I wanted to hear and making up lists of songs to both trip up the gear and also to see their strengths.

But all in all, after your first meet or two, you get the hang of things and it becomes a lot easier.

People found the akg340 laid back and dry sounding compared to what? Dry might be the definition of hp1000's hehe and they are possibly more laid back than the akg's?

Philidox I've got a grado here with your name on it.

[PS. I think I found and fixed all the misspellings.] Quote:

That's alright... I did notice, but figured there wasn't much of a point in correcting you.

Anyways, to make a long story short, i think i almost burnt myself. The Dynahi runs very warm, actually it runs hot, very hot. Im guessing this thing feeds so much current and voltage that cool temperature is a luxury. Atleast Jason has his winter heating under control!

LOL... It does run hot that is for sure. I plan on putting an AC in that room next summer, but I want to do a professional installation and just haven't had the time yet. Between my Dynahi and Eaphan's 'Beast', I am surprised that human life was coexisting in there so peacefully.

Thanks for the impressions on the K340's. I think this last sentence hits the nail on the head and is virtually the same conclusion that I came to... just switch the order of the headphones around so that it makes sense for me.

The HD595's and various Grado's I would guess. It also just might be a matter of their somewhat reserved bass. If you listen to the HD600's or SR225's and then switch to the K340's, they are likely to sound a little boring in the bass department. Quote:

Yeah, if anything this would be my criticism of them, but I thought they were quite nice and complimented the strengths of the K340 well. Quote:

That's what I hear. After my turnaround with Grado's in general and my reactions to the MS-1 and HP-2 I am sort of afraid to listen to the PS-1's.

RedLeader = Micah, since I seem to have question marks in the pictures. And I WAS listening to the MS-1 out of my d141, I was curious! Again, I was impressed by the power of the pcdp, but with that mosfet amp hooked up, the sound blew me away. Ah sweet mercy I need a pair of MS-1s and that amp. Sounds like a trip to the electronics store is in order!

Great, sorry about that... I've updated the post now to reflect that. I'm not sure how I missed your name at the meet. Very cool name... I'm jealous of you, Rhydon, Eaphan and Renato. 'Jason' is so boring by comparison.

I know what you mean... that Mystery Amp was great. Like a mini-dynahi almost. One of the things that made it really special was that it didnt seem to have a preference to low or high impedance headphones... it drove both at very similar volume levels.

It almost puts out as much heat as the Dynahi too.

Quick correction. Only the Mystery Amp is mosfet based. The Gilmores use bipolar transistors on the driver & output stages and only the 1st stage input is FET based. Didn't spend enough time with the Mystery Amp to get a handle on the sound though.

One headphone that I forgot to comment on was the Bose Quiet Comforts. HiWire's friend brought them and they were a pleasant surprise after all the bad press I've read about Bose on here. They actually don't sound that bad.

I still couldn't recommend them for what they cost, but they aren't crap by any stretch. Quote:

I'm not buying this.

We need some impressions from you, Rob, HiWire and his buddy. [I need names here to as I seem to have missed/forgot them both

EDIT: Come to think of it we haven't heard from Rick either... come on man, we need your thoughts. You do want the Corda HA-1 back, don't you.

PS. I forgot to write about it earlier, but one of the high points for me in the night was after we all finished the 'knife talk' and I brought out my Sai's and Bo and HiWire treated us to a very cool display. Made me realize how long it has been since I've been to Karate... I'm lucky if I don't drop the damn things now.

Oops... and here I thought they were the same thing.

Well, they sound similar in any case. Same sort of speed and attack, they run damn hot and they put out a lot of juice.

Rick sent me a close up picture of the Eastsound which I have added to the second post in this thread. I really want a Digital SLR now... even the 'blurry' shots that he took with it come out 100X better than the piece of crap that I have.

I forgot to mention the hackjob powercord I had to whip up after leaving the filterbox/powercord assembly for my amp at home. Thanks to Jason for letting me hack up 2 of his old computer powercords to solder together into the cord I needed. That thing redefines ghetto and probably violated a bunch of electrical codes & regulations. It's a small miracle that no fuses were blown and nothing caught fire.

I was too busy comparing headphones and drinking beer, and by the time I remembered to do a source audition I was too zonked.

This is partially due to the gain issues that I mentioned earlier, but I would imagine Rick will say something about the Eastsound once he gets around to writing his impressions. Eaphan has already heard it previously, so he didn't spend too much time with it at this meet. If you want to read his impressions they are in the old Hamilton Mini-Meet thread.
