During the time I had the SD cable (sold it off to Voltron), it was practically reliable. I don't understand how so many people can break it.

My SD cable has been in repair for over 2 months now, apparently due to the slowness of the molders. The problem I experienced was also a bad connection in one of the terminals.

Of course, I am about to put it up for sale, so hopefully its 4th owner will have the same good experience!

Mine did come back in late January and has been good to date. However, I'm keeping the BDv2 close at hand just in case.

I like the SD/650 pairing alright, but I recently got my Equinox back from its Tour de Geneve and I haven't used the SD since. I might take a trade to try out yet another 650 cable, or maybe not.

It feels like it's just a matter of time. My SD right channel went out today and I'll try emailing Drew. I am the second owner of my cable and it's been working fine for a year and 2 months.

How are you guys doing on the repair front? Are we still looking at a multi week wait?

thanks,
m

I sent my cable out early January and still haven't received it, so the wait seems to be more like multi-month =-/

Drew's had mine for about 8 months and I haven't heard from him since October about it. Tried emailing him recently but it bounced back. Last I heard the folks that do the "molding" for him are trying to finalize the design. Sounds like that may be over now. I'll have to ping him again.

I contacted him at his new email(forget it but it's on the moon audio main page) and he said the next batch of remolded cables will be shipped out end of April. I'm going to send him my SD cable tomorrow and hopefully slide into that batch.

I can't understand why many would continue to buy a cable that seems to have such a high failure rate and at such a high cost. Either I lack patience or there seems to be a lack of quality built cables for the Senn 650's. Why don't we just petition Sennheiser and ask how much would it cost on a large scale to design and build a cable like the SD without all the known problems? Add that everyone who is a Head-Fi member qualifies for a discount. Or has this been done before? I understand about sponsors, but waiting months for a cable...come on!

A couple things. The Silver Dragon has been out of production for several months at this point. AFAIK, like alot of "companies" that produce equipent for this hobby, Moon Audio is a one man buisness and while I'm sure he'd love to have the turn around of larger buisnesses (like Sennheiser) it really isn't going to happen. That being said I would also be fairly concerned if a was a owner of a Silver Dragon cable, but in the very least, the production has been halted so that a new revision can be developed, which hopefully doesn't have the issues of the present and past.

Furthermore, what you need to realize is that something like aftermarket cables is a very very niche market. A company like Sennheiser probably wouldn't find it that viable and even if they did, it would be priced in such a manner that only a couple indivudals would take advantage of it. And even if there was a HeadFi Senn cable, what would they use? People have vastly different prefrences, and I doubt there would be enough of a consesues where a company like Sennheiser would see viability in such a thing.
