Hi guys,

My brother is using my Dad's 80's floostanding speakers in his bedroom. The problem is that the woofers are both blown. They are 12 inch woofers. The speakers do not have a port and have some insalation inside. What woofers would you recomend to get some very nice bass. Price range is under 150.

Why not have them repaired depending on how they were blown?

They weren't that great to begin with so I think we might as well just get some nice ones.

you should try to find the exact woofer that was damaged since replacing it with a better quality one will probably reduce the sound quality of the speakers...

Why? Crossovers are designed to mesh together the tweeter's Frequency Response as well as the woofer(s). Since each driver has a different FR, replacing woofers with a random one will create anomalies within the speaker FR: Nulls, bumps, valleys, recessed highs, exagerated highs, etc..

If you're very very lucky, they might sound decent, if not, they'll sound like pure crap.

The fact that it doesn't have a port kinda helps, but you'll get unsure results for sure. You just can't switch woofers like that and expect a sound upgrade, sorry...
