despite everything, manually set assocations for mp3s to open in fb2k, my mp3s still have that ****** windows media player icon ( which makes them sound bad ) how can I kick microsoft in the nuts and use what icons i damn well want to :'( ?

uninstall windows media player

-there is a reason why Europe made m$ unbundle it. (obviously the overbearing file-type associations, RIGHT? /sarcasm)

Right click on any MP3 file >> Open With >> Choose program >> Select foobar and check "Always use this program..." then click okay. That should work! Try it!

right-click -> Properties -> where it says "opens with" select foobar or whatever then click "apply"

Easily done by disassociating the filetype within WMP itself:
- Open WMP
- Tools > Options > Filetypes
- Uncheck filetype(s) to disassociate
- Apply
