I dunno.....there be some serious air and PRAT with my 595s and current setup now!!! Looking at a better CD player now for my HD650s.....they're really screaming upgraditis at me to sound like an expensive speaker rig. So the only way to cure it, Maza, is to get some expensive equipment.....the Head-fi curse

Dunno. First time i head HD595 was out of Leben amplifier (when i compared them first time to SR225. Oh man, i want that amplifier!!!). It suffered the same problem i noticed now. Compared to Grados unrestricted sound, they are too laidback and confined sounding for me. I dont want my headphones to have all those masses and distance in front, i want the sound delivered to my ears as it is if you know what i mean.

Though again, the thing was probaply more physical problem? Senns definetly do not sound "open" and "free" and thats what i want from my headphones.

I don't agree 100% but I know what you mean. I do think the HD595s have air but maybe it's smokey air in a large closed room with the lights down low. Definitely not the way of all Sennheisers though, the HE60s sound more free and open.

Probaply. Im not good at "audiophile terms" and what they exactly mean. Just trying to explain with best words i figure, with my sucky english, what im feeling and hearing.

I don't know what sort of source and tubes the Leben had, so it may have been synergizing more with the set of Grados you were listening to. All I know is that the SLAM and DAC1 are taking away any veil that the 595s had in tonality. I mean if you look physically at the driver/ there isn't that much material seperating it and your ears. Just one porus mesh. Less material then a Grado comfie and white fiberous material covering its driver. Because it's circumaural, there is more distance from the driver....so that's what I equate as airy. Though it doesn't have as much open space behind the driver. That's the odd thing I'm noticing about the HD650s.....they leak sound like no other/ have a larger soundstage then my HD595 or even HD580. Yet when I put my hands up and cover the grills, there isn't much change in airy-ness.

Well I think the 595 is the most intimate of the Senns, so it sounds more like you're in a recording studio vs someplace with a lot of air. It would be interesting to hear your impressions of the HD650 if you get a chance mirumu. I'm finding it to be pretty neutral and full of soundstage. Upgraditis has already hit (check my sig)....I'm thinking with the sources, my HD650s will be as lively as any headphone system can be (I'm going to force myself to never listen to the $20k+ systems

Ok, I'm guilty of opening my Christmas present early. My very loving girlfriend bought me HD595s!!!!! I'm completely blown away by both the gesture and the sound of these cans. So musical, so much emotion in the vocals, so detailed (can hear the faint sound of an artist taking his finger off the key/string), flawless separation and soundstage (as far as I can tell since this is my first and possibly last pair of truly good headphones). I was thinking about an amp before I received it, but I think I'm satisfied for good

. And this is just out of my shuffle. I think the balance is just perfect too. Superb comfort. So perfect. *tear*

Congrats on the gift! And if it leaves you in such satisfaction, time to ban this site

Less you start losing favor for this so well balanced headphone, and look to source upgrades......and be doomed to the Head-Fi curse

Happy Holidays!

I'd quite like to hear the HD650 and am open to what it brings. I really wouldn't know what to expect from it. I can't see myself getting the chance to listen to one any time soon though, there doesn't seem to be that many Head-fiers nearby let alone those with HD650s. Can't see myself buying them to try, there are other things higher on my list like a better source and amp.

Short of an über-balanced setup, there isn't exactly a lot of reason to buy an HD650 when one already has an Omega 2.

Yes, it'd just be a whole extra lot of cost when I'm already happy with the O2. It's not that I'm only interested in electrostatics or anything but I don't really have any problems with the O2 to warrant looking elsewhere. A better source, amp and cables will only make it better. Anything else I'd look at is for some other purpose, i.e. IEMs for portability, etc.

The last thing you need is more IEMs, Matt.

Well, except maybe an ER-4B and some binaural recordings...

Thanks Davesrose!

Happy Holidays to all Head-Fiers!

If I were to go for an amp, how does the LDM+ go with the HD595? Synergistic, doesn't go well, or doesn't effect the sound much?
