So which is the Senn -- VDA-1 or DAC1?

I admit, it was me. I stopped the box at the airport, listened to all the sweet amps for 24 hours of passion, then sent them on their way! Glad they got there ok Ray!

I'm glad you liked the combo, pabbi1! I have found the HeadCode's power to be more than sufficient for my needs (and I've used it with a wide variety of headphones). Admittedly, my listening tends to me at slightly lower volumes than you require

In fact, I find one of the HeadCode's strengths is its uncanny ability to be very satisfying at lower volumes. With so many amps, it seems I've got to crank it to make "present" the full range of musical information along the frequency response. The HeadCode is able to deliver that information at more modest volumes.

Thanks, Rob, for hosting the Ft Worth meet. I heard a lot of new equipment, learned a lot, met a lot of smart and gracious people, and ate a LOT of great food at Charleston's. From my perspective, things couldn't have gone better. That sort of thing always means someone (you!) did a lot of work to make it seem effortless. Thanks again for the great experience.

Any thoughts on the Millet hybrid that was there? From the pictures it looks to have a STEPS psu, and I'm itching to hear what my future amp sounds like!

Rob, I agree on the Headcode - sweet even at the lower volumes (maybe I need to learn to listen better?), and it does have a full presentation across the spectrum, and is quite linear - no need to crank it to hit a sweet spot.

I'm just not sure which pieces acheived that - in total, it was awesome (G4, DAC1, Headcode & HP3000). Mayhaps we should have tried that amp with the Meridian and some other phones? That is why I hesitate to iso on what the amp, ceteris paribus, is delivering.

By the same token, I should have listened to the HP3000 on the Stealth / Meridian or Raptor / Meridian (and easy on the volume knob), just to start isolating the pieces.

But in all, a sweet rig - my wife would heartily approve...

Here is the review I wrote on the Millett, though it is not an independent review:

And here it is with the lid off...

pabbi1 - I couldn't agree more. I think we (all) made a mistake in not putting amps (e.g.) with different sources to try to better ascertain which component was producing what effect.

vforrest - thanks very much for the kind words.

Did you guys hear the Headcode with some other headphones as well (HD650 perhaps)?

As for being "underpowered", was it not loud enough? I thought there are two headphone jacks with different gains. Did you use the high gain one?

The Hornet sounds really intriguing by the way!

saint.panda - the two headphone jacks on my HeadCode have the same gain (at least on my version).

I think that, for the vast majority, the HeadCode's power will be more than sufficient. I don't know if you read the entire thread, but you might have picked up some comments suggesting that pabbi1 enjoys his sound at a volume level most would find deafening, to be perfectly frank (and pabbi1, I don't intend to be critical or judgmental here - so I'll ask your forgiveness if I've overstated the case). That is the basis of my statement that the HeadCode's power is simply NOT an issue. I typically listen to the HeadCode with volume between 9:00 and 11:00 and could not be happier with the power I have in reserve.

Thaddy - that would be me. I've had happy ears for the last week or so

. Sadly, I shipped them off today to recstar24

. No, I didn't sell them (heaven forbid!). Larry asked if I would be willing to send them to recstar24 so he could do a 6moons review of these and (IIRC) two other headphile products. So, bad for me, good for the team.
