Official Website: Micromega Hi-Fi

I just picked up a micromega T-DAC and T-Drive combo from agile_one of HeadFi. I heard it at the recent FL meet...loved it and I saw an opening and I went for it.

Well...it is on it's way to me as we speak and I should have it early next week. I am all excited (as usual...the anticipation is the best part of this game we all play isnt it? ) and trying to dig up as much information I can possibly find.

So far I have had VERY little luck finding anything online. Google hasn't been very friendly to me for some reason. I tried looking for the user manuals, for reviews, pictures...

Nothing

So here is the deal :

I will continue looking - I refuse to sit back and accept defeat without putting in an effort. It would be nice if some of you can supplement my efforts and dig out some information about my new source.

INFORMATION:

Micromega is a french manufacturer
The T-Drive and T-DAC are products from the "T" line
Released some time in 1993/94
The transport and DAC are separates (if you havent understood this by now)

WHAT I NEED:

* Reviews
* Pictures
* User Manuals

etc.

Thank you for helping me out. Any comments on this source from the "people in the know" is also very welcome.

* T-Drive Service Manual
* T-DAC Service Manual
* T-Drive User Manual
* T-DAC User Manual

because I couldnt get these files off the website.

Any input guys?

Your basic instruction manual. Some cool features of the T-drive:
I think it goes into stand-by after six minutes of non usage
The drawer will close and the player will shut down if the drawer is left open for 10 minutes.

I'm not famailar with the transport and dac, but one of my professors from my undergrad college had a micromega CDP that I had the opporunity to spend some time with. It was a really nice analog sounding rig that at times I thought sounded better then my Meridian 508.20. I'm sure the transport/dac seperates are a beast

Like I said before, I contacted micromega and they sent me the french language manuals. Apparently they dont have the manuals in English and they dont give out their service manuals. They offered to translate the instructions and send me a pdf file with instructions for both units in english. So far they have been very accomodating.

Quick impressions:

* reminds me of the Naim CD5x in tonality
* Bass monster! SA1000 has come alive!
* I suspect this drive+dac combo may be too bassy for the HD-650 etc.
* I am thrilled because it could be perfect for the Stax SR-404 which is slightly lean in the bass compared to the HD-650
* Build quality is stunning...simplicity and understated functionality

Yup...happy camper here

Nice looking set up you have there. I spent a lot of time listening to that set up without realizing it at the meet. That was the source for the the Stax set up, wasn't it? I didn't get a chance to compare to any of the other sources but from what I remember, I had no complaints. It helped to have an Orpheus and Omega II on at the time.

Good memory, Mike ... yes, the Micromega T-Drive transport and T-Dac dac were feeding the Stax 007t amp through balanced connections. Made some sweet sounds from both the Omega II's, and (especially) Wayne's Orpheus.

busy listening to it right now...back in a few H's with more input.

man those people got it right all those years back. This is one of the quietest transports I have ever NOT heard...There is simply no spinup noise...nothing!

You would think this is a FLASH equipped DAP !!

Congratulations.

Exactly why I decided to go for the micromega instead of the cyrus CD6. I am still not sure I want to AB the two because I really dig this sound. The SA1000 has always sounded a bit thin and stretched out compared to the SA5000 and HD-650. Now it sounds much better...bass is actually quite overpowering with the SR-60 with flat pads.

What this means is that once I receive the AES/EBU Digital cable and the XLR balanced analog cables - this will kick some butt with a balanced 007T/KGSS and the SR-404

It looks nice...the green lighting is pleasant. I have to change the blue LED on my amp now
