Got to thinking after reading the thread in the 'phone section about cans that extend to 5hz (ridiculous) what 0 db on my preamp means.
When the volume is set to 0 db does that mean that the headphone amp is effectively providing a signal without amplification? Depending upon the source material, comfortable listening level with my HD 497's is between -8db and +3db using the 1/4" headphone jack on my B&K preamp.
When I upgrade to the HD650's will I be overdriving the B&K preamp? I assume that the 300ohm resistance will reqire more amplification to achive similar volume levels. Where on the db continium is a good place to be with regard to maintaining a balanced and pure signal?
