post your grado mods....

The tricky part of building from scratch is getting the headband/cup attaching assembly I think.  You can get cups, drivers (Magnum) and cable easy enough, but I'm not sure how you would go about getting the rest?

Magnum? Are you talking about this one: http://symphones.com/buy-now  ? Are these like completely different from Grado's drivers? I haven't owned a pair of Grado before so I'm intrigued to get a pair that resembles Grado house sound.

You can cannibalize other cans...I have used these before to good effect:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00R9DIOEU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1464793814&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=polaroid+headphones&dpPl=1&dpID=413wuTtW8RL&ref=plSrch

I prefer the headband from the Sony MDR7502, but then I have to make the cups a little smaller to fit properly.

I was actually reading some other posts earlier. Apparently there's a mod called SennGrado which uses a pair of Sennheiser drivers?

You are correct. A great alternative to regular woodied Grados. They have an appreciation thread around here somewhere...

Those are the ones I was talking about.  Never heard them before either but they are standalone drivers you can purchase that fit into regular Grado dimensions.

So if you had woody cups and wanted to build a pair from scratch, that would be my route.

I want to build a woodie Grado. Should I get a pair of Alessandro MS1 and modify from there or get a pair of drivers and build from scratch?

Almost everything you need to know about where to buy abd what to buy for modding the Grado, Magnum and SenGrado you can find on this page in the Grado modders go Magnum thread.

I designed a model and my brother printed them for me.  Same for the rod blocks.  @fleasbaby made the cups for me and I did the finishing on them.  Maple is a beiatch to stain/finish, but it sounds divine.  I think I'm selling all of my other headphones.

What would a mahogany Senngrado (RS1 clone) with L-Cush, PX100-IIi drivers and a nice turbulent labs headband usually sell for?  I'm looking to sell my GH-1 and the Senngrado and keep my newest build and get a HD600 or HD650.

I reckon you could likely pull $200, $250 max...try the HD600. I preferred it to the HD650 when I was trying them (not as dark, I discovered the Sennheiser veil firsthand). I kept the HD600 for longer. Was a really great pair of cans, just too big to take to work with me, which is where I do most of my listening. I was powering it via my Pono using a balanced cable.

I like the design of them, really clean looking.

Funny, I just sold my HD-600 but will keep the HD-650, only thing with the HD-6XX is they need a good amp to properly drive them, for me its be a BH Crack with a few mods and decent tubes which brings the price up quite a lot, $600 or so.

As @fleasbaby noted the HD-650 will sound dark/warm coming from a Grado or SennGrado, but to me it provides a good contrasting complimentary headphone.
