"line out (optical)" ?

That's usually a 1/8" combo output - it's got all electrical connections to serve as a regular (= eletrical analog) line out but also got a led for optical s/p-dif installed, which is facing the tip. You'll also find this type of jack on portable md-players, because it's a very compact solution for providing an analog eletrical line and optical s/p-dif input...

Again, why do some have optical out and others coax out? Can't they standardize these damn things?

Pardon the language but I'm @#%&*' furious!

because they are jerks... they arent that dumb, they are just mean, because they make us buy all these different types of mediocure cdps then go on to buy more and more searching for the one type of cdp that is actualy half way decent, and by then, we have set their kids through college.. ok im rambling..

PJ325is:
the optical out is for a DAC (digital to analog converter) and then to an amp.
