I just connected the Wave 8s and K1000, using a Grado RA-1 headphone amp for volume control. Dimarizo interconnects are between CD player and RA-1. Played a little jazz, folk, Andean, Baroque , choral, and an aria. The sound is great. Very wide sound stage; deep base; smooth treble; lots and lots of volume; very open and detailed sound. Noticeably better than the solid state receiver that was replaced. More improvement (if that's possible) expected when I get the Creek OBH-10 passive preamp. (to be used with additional Dimarzios), and when I substitute an ASL AQ1005 DT for the Wave 8s. I'll report a comparison of the amps. when I get the AQ1005 DT.

Same setup here, Wave 8s, Melos SHA-1 and K1000 - best headphone setup I have heard yet.

I just ordered some SET 300B kits, which I hope will kill some of the hum, the Wave 8's only fault. Of course a good rewire and tweak might do the same.

Absolutely no hum on my setup, even with the volume cranked all the way up. No hum even through the connected klipsch SW-12 powered subwoofer, unless its volume is cranked to max. With RA-1 volume set at max, the system is absolutely silent.

Another observation about the K1000/Wave 8 combination. Terrific improvement using this combination with a 12 inch powered subwoofer, as compared to the K1000 (with the nearby subwoofer) driven by a solid state receiver. The "sound envelope" with the Wave 8s is smooth and all enveloping. With the solid state receiver I felt a conflict between the subwoofer and the k1000; i.e., there was no whole envelope of sound. The deep base seemed separated from the rest of the sound envelope. Also, when increasing the volume of the Wave 8s, the sound envelope just broadens, and becomes deeper and richer. But, with increasing volume of the solid state receiver, the sound became shrill and unpleasant. It's hard to believe that headphones can sound any better than K1000s driven by Wave 8s, with a large powered subwoofer nearby. When I get the ASL AQ1005DT we'll see whether there is further improvement.

I wonder if your amps are more recent production, and something has improved? I bought three, intending to use two while tweaking one. All hum, but one picks up AM radio! I'm not complaining given the price.

My units were shipped by Divergent Technologies on May 1st. With no input from my CD player they are absolutely silent, and the music that they produce sounds absolutely wonderful. Also, there is no pickup of any AM or other stray signals. The units that I bought are the slightly more expensive ones; i.e., the ones with the metal covers, and the removable computer-type power chord. Each costs about $20 more than the "bare bones" (i.e., $99 version).
