Ok so I'm gonna be goin away to college this summer and getting a laptop for that. I imagine its gonna be my only (non portable) source while im in college and Ill be needing something to make my new DT 770-80s really sing. So im putting my budget around $200 and of course have my own ideas. Either get a M-Audio Transit as my line out to a DIY Pimeta (hard way). Or get an Echo Indigo with its decent built in amp (easy way). Which of my options do you guys think will sound best? Or feel free to make up a new option it will probably be better than mine.
Thanks in advance

I was looking at the Bithead....from HeadRoom. It is a DAC/soundcard, which can be plugged into the USB port (also powers it that way too). I've just started learning about the amps....wish I could help with the others.

Get an EMU 0404 and a used PIMETA or Headsave Classic (I find Burr Brown opamps to match better with the DT770 than Analog Devices opamps). That should total about $200 and should give you great sound.

Too bad they don't have fire/usb cases for pci devices like they do for IDE devices.

I haven't heard the indigo, but based on having read this forum for a while I'm going to guess that transit + pimeta would be a notch up.

Anyway, although I already have a govibe amp, I was looking to get my feet wet building one my own amps this summer -- like a Pimeta or if I'm ambitious enough an PPA. If you end up deciding upon a DIY amp and want to order/share parts and maybe even try making them together, let me know.

Hahah im still not sure where im goin yet neo... hopefully colorado school of mines in golden or maybe texas tech if mines kicks me out for not passing calculus...

Im lovin my dt770's as well... i could sit up all night jammin to em. did GC give em to ya for 150?

Id definately consider sharin parts for the build. ive already built a cmoy so ive got most of the tools. the indigo is tempting cause its got a headamp and a line out on the dj model which is what id get. and its so compact compared to the trasit and amp option.... and cheaper.... grrr the indigo is soundin good right now...
