DO NOT INSTALL THIS OPTIONAL UPDATE!

VIA Technologies Inc. - Sound - Envy24 Family Audio Controller WDM
VIA - IC Ensemble, Inc. multimedia software update released on February 16 2005.

I just made the mistake of doing so and it completely borked my AV710 install

Windows Update is really only good for security updates. Updating drivers using WU is a recipe for disaster (as I have found out myself a while back).

No kidding. If you are using drivers that aren't approved (I'm specifically thinking Video Card drivers), Windows Update will actually downgrade the drivers to approved ones. What a crock.

Yeah, the only Windows Update "certified" drivers which are actually upgrades from non-certified drivers are those written for devices whose manufacturer is either no longer writing new drivers for them or whose most recent non-certified drivers are significantly older than the Windows Update "certified" ones.

By the way, the ATi Radeon Series cards do have a certified driver from Windows Update - but they are based on an older version of the ATi Catalyst drivers, and there are newer WHQL certified drivers available from ATi itself.

If your going to use windows then at least know that windows has no idea what its talking about 95% of the time. If it says that you NEED something, screw it, find out what you need on your own cause windows will just install something that is incompatable and outdated (think home networking, drivers, system services, etc)
