With the Singlepowers you can get the sound tailored to your individual requirements.I have found that my two box SDS produces a really smooth, not overly detailed sound with great bass. The one advantage it has,IMO,over the less expensive PPX3,MPX3 variants is that it sounds more 'relaxed'.It's true that the choice of tube type makes a big difference and although I haven't heard a 12SN7 Singlepower it sounds like a useful option to have.

Mike, how much do you want to spend?

Earl,what is the SLAM?

I would get a Supra with a tube rectified power supply. Put a NU black glass in front of two RCA VT-231 grey glass tubes. This will give you the warmth you want without loosing the bass you are looking for.
I agree with Rob N. Have an amp built to give you what your looking (listening

) for. That way even though you have not heard the amp you will still get what your wanting and paying for. Call Mikhail.

Well I think its alot a combo of the new source and new amp. I would say the amp is the reason for the huge, close your eyes and think your listening to speaker soundstage. The imaging is the best I have heard through any speaker or headphone system. All in all, as good or better than any audio system I have heard. The amount of detail is just unreal. At the same time it never gets tiring. Vocals (male or female) are also the best I have heard. I am completely happy with the way things have worked out. I orderd an Audio Magic mini stealth digtial line conditioner today for the SCD-1 and Audio Aero. I will keep the amp plugged into the wall.
Three more upgrades over the next year or so and I should be about as far as I can go. Until then I am having a blast listening to this system. I would love for sacdlover, Hirsch, and some others who are in range to come down and listen for a weekend.

Hi Rob, I don't really have a fixed price as such. I am looking for a EMP anniv type sound but with more low end, and well controlled. I will be using the Rs-1's as this is my favourite phone, but the low end can get a bit wild at times. But I really want am amp which exudes warmth. If I need to go nuts, I just use my Melos.

SinglePower "Slam" has an interesting new feature I just heard last night. Mihkail has included as standard a variable feedback control. When off, this allows a very warm "tubey" sound. When fully engaged, it tightens the sound and results in a faster, more linear, response. What's nice is that you can tailor this using a front mounted control to the exact amount of feedback that's right for your particular tubes and headphone.

Is this based on one of the amps already out or is this a totally new design? This sounds like a great idea. Any idea of the cost? What tubes does it use?

The SLAM is marginally based on the ppx3. I had Mikhail build me a ppx3 with 5687 output tubes. He liked the amp so well he decided to make it a production model. The amp is very, very powerful sounding. You have heard the old ppx3... well double the dynamics, pump up the midbass slam, open up the soundstage and increase the treble extension without any spotlighting and you have the SLAM. Mikhail thought the feedback control would tone down the bass and tighten the sound some for those preferring a more neutral sound. I dont have the feedback control but I love my amp just the way it is. But the feedback control does offer some flexibility for those wanting more neutrality. The tubes are a 6cg7 gain tube and two 5687 output tubes. The cost will be somewhere between a ppx3 and the mpx3. I would guess around $750-800 since the ppx3-6sn7 is $650-700.
