Little or Creek?

But it seems like the upgrade path into the little more makes the presentation brighter, which doesn't appeal to me. True?

Also, my main application is for my home system, but having a portable unit could definitely be a bonus.

Is the sound of the Little superior enough to the Total Airheads that it will be worthwhile to do without the portability?

I'm pretty picky and discerning when it comes to sound quality.

Larry,
You're reading too much into this. Call Todd @ HeadRoom. Talk it over with him. If you're picky and discerning, get the little for home and the TA for on the road.

Best of luck with your decision.

Oops. I meant that the Little is a bit darker sounding than the Little More Power.

Agree on the other point--call Todd to discuss the fine points between the two amps (Little vs. Total AirHead). Best bet is to get both, but the Little offers superior sound if you can only afford one.

The 2002 Little is definitely superior to the 2001 TAH.

Haven't heard the new TAH's to compare, but the Little is still supposed to be noticeably better.

I have the 2002 TAH and I love it. But I would never expect a quality portable unit, amp or PCDP, to be better than a quality stationary unit. So, if you need portability go with the TAH othewise the Little. Or go crazy and get both.

Actually the Creek can be had online for $169 and the Little is $260? Given the nearly $100 price difference, I'm guessing the Creek is probably the better value. Too bad since I was set to go with the Little. But the units are probably pretty comparable, and the price kicks the Creek in first place for me.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to increase headpone volume, it is hard to beat $169. But if you are also looking to improve the sound from your headphones, you should really give the Little a road test. Besides being well constructed, it does offer processor and filter functionality, features I feel separate the Headroom amps from many other brands. Sometimes there is more to a price difference than profit.

What Dean said.... Right on!

OK. I think I know your answer to this already, but I can get a demo little (the prior version) for $150. Do you think this would be a better buy than the Creek new for the same price?

I think so, as an owner of the previous Little (although it has been upgraded since to a More Power). I think the Headroom processor improvements, quality build, and support warrant much more than the $100 price differential between the Little and the Creek.

Plus the Creek REALLLY needs the upgraded power supply.

May 4, 2002 at 4:33 PM Post #27 of 37
So the Creek WITH the upgraded power supply would equal the cureent Little in price. HMMM.

OK, considering I can get a barely used demo of the prior version of the Little for $150, would the current version of the little be a big enough upgrade to justify a 75% higher price?

Is there anyone who's heard the last two versions of the Little that could comment?

(It amazes me that I'm going through the same process of buying a $200 headphone amp as I did a $5000 projector.) I hope they don't open up forums on clothing or might take weeks to buy a pair of socks...

Well, it depends on what kinds of socks you're looking for

Either way, with the demo Little or the new Little, you can't go wrong. I have not heard the new one, but I've had my Little (and More Power) for over five years and it's given me a great deal of listening pleasure. You can always get the demo Little and upgrade later, if you choose.

Take it FWIW, but I have read that the new Little is a big improvement over the old Little.

The only thing I can compare to is my 2001 TAH, but the Loaner Little was really an improvement. Really hated to send it back, but everything's on hold until I finish the overhaul of my boat. Probably the end of September. The latest Little is supposed to be better than the older one.
