Great rockers for car road trip

Tom Petty kind of escaped me, he's good. And what's the name of his song where, in a video clip, he's tossing around the dead Kim Bassinger?

PF's Dogs Of War is also good for driving. Thanks everybody for suggestions. I'm getting ready and already burned 3 cd's. Need few more

Jacob: I think that song is called "Mary Jane's Last Dance"

If I want to listen to music while driving I want it to move me, I want to sing along with it (another reason I like driving alone, most passengers wouldn't appreciate my singing). I'm going to miss my car when I get back to Boston, no driving for about 9 months.

PJ Harvey - Long Snake Moan? For driving? Never thought of that one...

A nice tune for driving is Grand Funk Railroad "I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home), all 9:47 of it.

CCR is a great source of simple, primal rockers. Besides "Keep On Choogling" that'll keep you pushing on gas for at least 7 minutes straight there're great rockers like "Run Through The Jungle" and, especially, "Fortunate Son". The latter, imo, is the best anti Vietnam war song with it's straight honesty and rage.

Jimi Hendrix - Fire
Black Crowes - Remedy
Stone Roses - Driving South
Led Zeppelin - Sick Again
Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
ACDC - Highway to Hell
ZZ Top - Got Me Under Pressure
Nirvana - Aneurysm -> this one adds an extra few mph when I'm driving

Guns n' Roses - Out Ta Get Me
Guns n' Roses - Paradise City
John Mellencamp - Pink Houses
John Mellencamp - Jack and Diane
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Green Day - Basket Case
Led Zeppelin - Communication Breakdown
Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid
Black Crowes - Remedy
Black Crowes - Hard to Handle

Those are off the top of my head. Rock is the best for driving, it really keeps you on your toes I find.

Oh excellent, pearle. I think I'll be getting some U2 on my next trip to the store.

Does anybody seem to notice a pattern with the same bands popping up all the time in each post?

Hmmm, why do road trips always bring out classic rock? anyway, I'll add my own suggestions in the oder that I see the mp3s.

Bob seger - ramblin gamblin man
lynyrd skynyrd - free bird (the long vers.)
edgar winter group - frankenstein
yes - roundabout
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Love Rollercoaster
Greatful Dead- Trucking

albau, that Dire straits song is Money for Nothing, and its a good one.

Hmm, I better quit before I list all of my music, you can't really go wrong with any of the suggestions here.

I've never been a huge U2 fan, but their new CD is great to drive too, I love the opening to the first track. The latest Counting Crows album also has a great opening that is great to listen to in the car. And, a little off topic, but the Gladiator Soundtrack and Holst's The Planets are awesome, they'll get you pumped for the miles ahead of you.

I recommend "Where It All Begins" by the Allman Brothers Band.

Especially tracks 3-5. Hammond B-3, double drum kits and Paul Reed Smith guitars. Flat out gets it. Track 5, the Bo Diddleyesque "No One To Run With " would be the perfect music for flying off a cliff ala Thelma & Louise.
