it's fine; it's a common ground, so you will be just fine.

i posted this on the diy board but:

for about $7 + shipping you can do this (ouput only) with:

1. switchcraft nikel rca's
2. canare star quad
3. heat shrink
4. 9pin connector and hood

check er out. no min orders. no handling fees. of course, if you want gold plated rca's or silver cable of course it will be more, but for a basic interconnect, it will be pretty darn affordable. there are so many incredibly expensive cables floating around.

i'd like to do a few of these, and either sell or give away some extras. alas, can't do it for awhile though

thought: what about two lenghths of canare 2-conductor cable? ie. to different lengths for each rca to avoid doing a y-split. i supose this would be just ascetics, though maybe it could produce different acoustics. cable would cost 2x as much, but it's pretty darn cheap anyway. only problem i can see would be getting both lengths in the 9pin hood.

also, if your hood has no clamp, make sure to use electrical tape or something so the weight isn't on the solder joint. (advice courtesy of terrymx)
