What are the main differences between the Sm3 and the W4 in your point of view? I'm on the impression that the Sm3 is one of your all time favorites, correct?

hey, dfkt. you are my idol. I tried 3 top model iems: sony mdr ex1000, sm3 and westone 4. Though you like sm3 but I think 3 of them are not really worth for their price. I am using phonak PFE also. The old version of phonak PFEs are very cheap in my country, about $50 so they are unbeatable

Funny, I just found this review link. Just sent back my SM3 in exchange for a Phonak 012 plus gray filters. Too much diminishing returns. And not quite the best match between my S639 and the SM3. I'd rather play in the $79 or less range, have two overachiever phones and an amp and still save some cash. Plus the SM3 housings would suffer the same fate here in the Northeast(with the seasons) as my previous UE phones. Not long before splitting or cracking. Though I'm with dfkt that the Earsonics are the overall best offering sound-wise, ATM.

Interesting review, I have to agree with you, I didn't think it was a world beater either. I expected more considering the 4 drivers and the pricepoint.
In my opinion the SM3 is more fun to listen to with more bass impact, more treble presence with the Sensorcom tips, dynamics and more intimate presentation.

I feel this review has a tiny "my casio tells the time just as well as your rolex" vibe to it.
However, if anyone else has the W4 and PFE, please leave your impressions!
