Thanks for the review, this is on my short list of IEMs I'm currently investigating. The bass is what people always bring up first as one of the positive, but I've yet to hear any JBL sub that sounds decent especially a 10" unless we are talking about car subs?

JBL does make some decent subs, as well as cheap ones (though I do miss the old days of JBL before subwoofers became more popular).  Keep in mind that many if not most people have no clue how to properly set up a subwoofer, and this becomes very apparent when music is run through their systems.  Actually, most people don't really know anything about setting up speakers period, but subwoofers are often the most difficult, and the most obvious when they're not correct.  That said, whether you like JBL's subs or not, it's obvious that he meant them as a good thing.

Audioman612 has it right. I definitely meant that as a statement of quality, specifically deep, tight, and punchy bass as opposed to muddy and boomy bass. I was also primarily considering the car audio subs they make, due to my experience in car audio.

You wouldn't believe the amount of hours I've spent tuning and adjusting my current car sub (Sundown SA-12), including building my own box for it. You could say I have a pretty deep appreciation for quality bass on a budget.

great review! still enjoying my gr07BE after about 1.5 years now still my favorite of my growing collection. i think the sound signature is more bright > dark personally because of the slightly uneven treble. which would account for the siblance, but that little niggle aside, its superb

Hi Tom, I totally understand what you mean. In songs that can provide sibilance, I can definitely see why you consider them bright. However, I've noticed that when there isn't too much or any sibilance, they're more on the dark side. I had a really tough time deciding which to call them honestly! If anything, this goes to show they're more on the neutral side. Definitely not as dark as HD650s, of course-somewhere in the middle to my ears.

I always recommend the normal GR07 because they are insanely good for the price... The SE535's arent even close when i owned them. I have yet to try the BE, hopefully in the coming months :D

I would agree with tom. Ive had mine for about 1 year and amongst my collection, they are tied with the pfe132 for top spot. I think they have the best cable ive ever used. They are super comfy, not crazy expensive and sound amazing. They are one of the only sets that truly live up to the hype. I percieve a very very soft v shape to them, but mids never sound even remotely missing. Best of all is the natural-ness. That is what sets them apart from virtually everything else i own.
