A wonderful review Anakchan, they are a bit colored but in a really good way, definitely an enjoyable and fun pair of cans. I am a bit sensitive to peaky treble but the V-Moda's slight peak is still quite comfortable to listen to.
Sounds kinda M50-ish, but I assume without the absolutely terrible mids. I don't mind recessed mids, but crappy mids are another story. You've put more info into the other ranges than the mids, can you give us more about the mids?
all i am waiting for is v-moda to make a pad as magical as the one on these, but thicker at the back for those of us with ears that stick out, and i won't hesitate to sell my m50 and jump on these
@takato14, thank you for your comments and I actually did read it but got busy and distracted. Anyhow, I'd probably like to clarify that I mentioned the mids were pulled back somewhat but not recessed. I view recessed to be really pulled back of which the M-100 isn't (as such I chose the words carefully when I wrote the review/impressions). As such I personally interpreted it to be slightly less than neutral but in my discussions with Val it is neutral except the forward bass give the perception that is not.
I found the mids not to be as clear as I like - and admittedly I've been spoilt by headphones that are 6-7x the cost of the M-100s so it's not really a fair comparison. What mids I do hear, I feel is not as clear as I'm used to. I'm not too certain where to describe it but say something like the tenors Il Divo, I feel the M-100 perform well, whilst something like Ann Murray or Lana Del Rey, I think I'm more accustom to a pair of headphones that emphasise mids for that vocal range. I know, the M-100 wasn't designed with Ann Murray and Lana Del Rey in mind. As such my comments about the M-100 being genre specific - just as it was designed to be.
Good to know, thanks.
I really liked my M50s a while ago, until I really got to know their one true flaw, the mids. Maybe the M-100 will be a good replacement.
Forget about the M-100 ... excellent PHOTOGRAPHY and review layout; and clear/succinct prose. Val ... you OWE some of these reviewer-fans, like AnakChan (et. al.) free cans for life for all the attn they lavish your products!
