I agree, the bass is pretty plentiful. I would say they are a borderline basshead iem; they can be one with EQ, which I find they take to rather well, which makes me curious how they would sound amped. I just love their almost liquidy sound, especially with electronic music, I've definitely never heard anything like it; I don't claim to be a seasoned audiophile but I have tried a good few headphones between $50-$150 MSRP, admittedly mostly mainstream retail stuff (Monster/Beats, Bose, Skullcandy, Sony, Phillips, Auvio, Sennheiser), but the Shures are a whole different sound of music to my ears.
having the ability to cross reference you two's opinions on these is great. im finding i am not expirenceing the "impact" that you speak of bcasey. mabey i got a less intense pair?? i know its not the seal thought, theses baby's are in there snug. perhaps the impact improves with burn in?? that being said, im not saying at ALL that these are lacking in bass. frigg no they arent!
Gilly. i bought the EQU app for ipod touch and these do indeed respond very well to it. by the way, that app is very cool and works well. def. worth 3 bucks or 2...i cant remember how much it was. i heard that amping them only improves a little bit. i think i read it on here somewhere. i too feel that electronic style music is the most impressive so far through these bad boys. and yes im not an audiophile either, but i feel it kinda "happening" to me the more time i spend on here. im starting to demand way too much of iems now. have either of you heard the sennheiser cx 475? I know they're a bestbuy exclusive, but wow bass is impactfull.
haha bcasey yes indeed bassheads would be silly to require more bass from iems.
"If these aren't bass head iems bass heads are nuts."
Lol have you ever heard FA Eternas or the Sennheiser CX series? ^_^
The SE215s are also a lot less dark than typical basshead IEMs which makes the bass stand out more.
Versus cans, I think the SE215s have bass comparable to my Phiaton MS400; obviously the overall sig isn't as dark and there is not nearly as much extension or detail, but I find the quantity and impact are around the same level, and I don't think the MS400 qualify as a basshead headphone.
I have to say though...the SE215 are getting bassier and bassier as they burn in...they still aren't on the level of my eternas, especially when it comes to mid-bass, but they do hit pretty hard...
What tips are you guys using? That can have a huge effect.
