I own the SE-A1000 and have been looking to upgrade to the HD598.
I agree the SE-A1000 has an expansive soundstage and very good low end bass from an open type headphone.
Paired with the Fiio E11 and Ipod Classic, it sounds very smooth.
The HD598 should be better in every area but how much better ?
