I agree with above comments, I thought PM3 was a closed headphone ? so should compare against closed ones. I like to hear someone do review on HP50 vs Oppo Pm-3.

And is this on ear headphone ? the earpads are really small like HP50.

@Canadian411, I appreciate your feedback and I agree. Unfortunately, I just do not have any closed headphones on hand to do any direct comparisons with. I am looking into picking up some closed headphones to do direct comparisons with, deciding which ones to get and where to get it from. Will also be looking to do a direct comparison against Audeze's new EL-8 when the dealer near me gets them in stock.

I did see a review by @marcoarment, comparing a variety of closed portable headphones including the HP50 & PM-3, found here. Very enjoy read if interested in portable close back comparisons!

The Oppo PM-3 are OVER-ear headphones. Per Oppo's official representative, the inner earcup dimensions were estimated to be 60mm x 40mm in height and width. My measurements are a bit on the conservative side. Their overall measurements does appear to be in-line with average sizes for closed over-ear portable measurements (good resource here). I do think people with larger than average ears may end up with a less comfortable fit or perhaps an on-ear fit. None of my friends who tried out my PM-3 had an issue yet with the fit. Will see if I can find someone with larger ears to comment on the fit.

great review, Have you heard the Fidelio L1, I got these on a whim since they were $103 on Amazon and Tyll had them on his wall of fame for awhile.  PM-3 a good comparison to L1?

Wow.  Only $400?  I'm getting tired of my Fidelio X1's and have been thinking about planar HP's...but I really like having a wide sound stage so I guess I'll have to hold back on these.

But very nice, thank you for your review.  And they're white--very pretty!

many thanks for your review.
I'm thinking of buying my first over-ear headphone and, from cheapest, I've chosen
Momentum 2.0 (319€); B&W P7 (379), Denon AHMM400 (471); OPPO PM-3 (529€)
aA you can see, there's a huge delta with momentum and a significant one with P7: do they worth the extra cost?

Thank you all for your kind words.

@DavidA, unfortunately I do not have any experience with the Phillips L1 headphones.

@Martor, all of your choices use premium materials & have very nice build quality; really just comes down to sound. I personally strongly prefer the PM-3 over the P7 in terms of sound signature & sound quality. The P7 does have a cool folding feature as does the Denon. No experience with the Denon though; I don't believe that model is available here in America. I have not personally heard the new Momentum 2.0 yet, but I did greatly enjoy the old Momentum. The new Momentum 2.0 also addressed my biggest concern with them by adding larger earcups.

In terms of value per cost, I am not too familiar with the normal pricing of headphones overseas in euros. Comparing your quoted prices with their USD prices, all those headphones are much more expensive except for the Momentum 2.0. For me personally, I hate overpaying for things, so if I was in your shoes I would probably just go for the Momentum 2.0 just because of the pricing & my positive experience with the gen1. Hard to comment on whether the headphones are worth the extra cost, but usually in my personal experience is that you can always find very solid options with comparable sonic performance at a lower cost and there is no need to pay a premium unless you are really in love with a specific headphone's sound signature/performance. Also, keep in mind there will be diminishing returns for performance as the price scales up with headphones.

Awesome review money4me. One of the best I've read in a long time. Honest and clear. Do you have any others.
P.N. I am hoping you review the Audeze EL-8 when they are out.

@ashutoshp, thanks for the compliment! actually that was my first official review. yea, i am hoping to do an in-depth review of the el-8 as well, but can't afford them right now. will be trying to demo them soon though, so i may post some impressions on the el-8 thread. glad you enjoyed it! :)

Informative and thoughtfully constructed review. Looks like I'll be trying these instead of the EL8 closed back for a portable planar!

Great review, very good to see comparisons - I know what to expect from these now that is for sure. I saw you mentioned all the other planar cans on the market. There are also the ZMF Vibro and Blackwood as planar magnetic cans that are always an option for home use. Look forward to hearing my PM-3 soon.

EXCELLENT review!
The PM-3 do share the organic tonality of the Audeze headphones while sounding more neutral to my ear. The speed of the PM3s are quite comparable to the LCD-X.

Well-said!! I've really been enjoying them, am close to scribing a review here too before I write a paid review elsewhere.

This was a sincere pleasure to read.
Hats OFF

@Schokolade bar, glad the review was helpful for you. look forward to seeing your impressions!

@HarleyZK, thanks! saw your initial impressions on the PM-3 thread. very well-written :)

@mikemercer, awww! it makes me feel really warm & fuzzy inside to get a such a nice compliment like that from a professional reviewer!!! Glad to see that my impressions matched your assessment as well. Can't wait to see your review of the PM-3 and EL-8!!

@PilotNorman, you're welcome. yes, I really enjoy the PM-3 with the sound of tube amplifiers. I personally love adding a bit of that tube sound to a nice neutral-oriented pair of headphones. The Lyr 2 is my personal favorite amplifier and it pairs very well with the PM-3!

My only criticism of the PM-3 is a slight blandness, a lack of involvement and excitement. No jump factor. But this is often the case with orthos (upper-mid dip) so nothing really out of character.
