Great write up. I have ordered the DX320 MAX Ti, so I can't wait to put it to test. It seems it has great dynamics and it will work rather well with busy genres like prog rock and metal. I'm glad you also listen to Haken.

I would like to ask if you if on longer running listening sessions the device ever got hot, and mentioning the batteries, what kind of user replaceable batteries are there?

My Shanling M8 was hotter during listening sessions. So for me MAX is not getting that hot. As for batteries the best is to ask @Paul - iBasso

Thanks for a great review and comparison to the 320. I have a 300 w/Amp 13 paired with og Utopia and Stellia so I’m guessing your observations and comparisons are on point for my setup too. It would be tough deciding to make the change for the incremental improvements but your descriptions of the sound are helpful and compelling.

Hello, I have one as well. Still trying to get used to some of the differences between this and the 300MAX, I have been blessed to have both. I swear the screen on the 300MAX is better, brighter and easier to see. I even sent iBasso a question regarding, they said both are the same screen from SHARP. I am a little "anal" and I wish the instruction book, which I do have via pdf, would say what ohm level of headphones the I through IV settings should be the front, for instance, a 20 Ohm IEM should be like at I, a 35 Ohm unit like at II, a 60 Ohm at III, anything above 80 like at IV, etc.......both have incredible sound and beyond belief power, far exceeding in sound quality that anything I have ever heard from FiiO, Astell&Kern and Sony............thoughts?

Hi, nice review. What cable is that on Nutopia 22?

Hi, it's an Invictus Palladium 4 Core cable.

@SREHR56 it is not only about ohms but a combination of both the impedance and the sensitivity. Also low impedance doesn't mean that it is easier to drive, especially for a low impedance and low sensitivity headphone, as a low impedance headphone needs more current than a high impedance one. Some say for full headphones below 50 ohms is current driven and above 50 ohms it is voltage driven.

As a rule of thumb, for IEMs I would start with the lowest gain and check how it drives them and if possible stay there, or the second level. The 3 and 4 are, I think, really for full headphones.

@SREHR56 another point is, except the planars, nearly all IEMs and HPs have non-uniform and frequency dependent impedance. For example this is the impedance curve of Campfire Andromeda. Although it is specified as 12 ohms, it is 4 ohms (lows) to 25 ohms (around 6 kHz), so the given impedance is only an average. It is going to be even wilder for other crazy multi driver IEMs. Planar HPs have flat impedances, independent of the frequency.

Thanks to all, still don't comprehend why in the full 60 some odd page instruction manual provided by iBasso there is no mention AT ALL of what each of the settings on the very important exterior device on a $3500 unit should be........very thorough in every aspect EXCEPT that........also, how come the 300MX has FIVE D settings and on the 320MAX only two D settings.........serenity now.......

@SREHR56 It's rather simple. DX300MAX uses AK4499EQ chips, which by design offer 5 digital FiR filters. DX320MAX uses ROHM BD34301EKV chips, which by design offer 2 digital FiR filters. I covered this in my DX300MAX review, and you can also locate this on the chip makers' official model pages.

Hope all confusion is gone =D

Please send me your 300 Max review. I have used, tried and tested both. I am not insane. Clearly the 300Max has more power, I don't care what any details say. I just used the same high end IEM, and the same song on each unit with the 300Max on M and the 320 Max on three of the four notched, my words. The song on the 300 Max was loud, full, superb sound at about 10am volume. The same of everything at same sound level on the 320Max the attenuator, volume was at 2pm. Chips ahoy.........I have also had four people look at the 300MaX screen at 80% brightness and the 320Max at 80% and all five of us said the 300 looks better........so............I am keeping my 300, trading my 320 back to the vendor towards a NAIM UNITI HE edition...........
