nice review. so you would spend $60 on one of these?

ive been looking into a Sabre dac so this couldnt have come at a more perfect time. I just wish it had more than a single kind of digital input. at least toslink+coax would have been great, but not a huge issue.

I guess I would have to put my emu 0404 usb between my computer and this

I surely would, as it ticks all the right boxes for me.

Pack it into a nice large aluminium enclosure, add an internal power supply, add some RCA outputs to it and nobody would even ever know the DAC inside was this inexpensive.

An option with coaxial as well as toslink input would be the FiiO D3 which received positive feedback, too. I always wanted to buy one of those for a DIY project bud didn't have the time for it (although I made the construction plans few years ago), so I cannot comment how it compares.

Nice Reviews !!
I would associate this DAC with my Bose Companion 50 for more musicality and natural (++ HIGH + HI-MID), what do you think ?

Regarding the Toslink cable, would I signal loss using a Toslink to 3.5mm Mini Connector Adapter ?

What brand do you recommend for Toslink Cable ?

Here's the idea of my setup:
iPhone/iPad (Streaming SPOTIFY) > AirPlay > Apple TV 4 (CD files ALAC) > HDMI 1.4 (3 meters) > TV SHARP Aquos LC-60LE635E (60") > S/PDIF (DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT) > DAC HiFime Sabre ES9018K2M (mini-Toslink to mini-jack 3.5mm) > Bose Companion 50 (2.1 Stereo)

Is it possible to use the USB port on my TV to power the DAC (DC 5V) ?
Thank you.

Depending on how good/bad your TV's output is, there is a chance that you might experience a better sound. If your TV however has got a good audio output, there won't be a large improvement (if any). It all depends on the individual source device (your TV) and needs to be tested by yourself (nobody can predict whether an external DAC will lead to a better sound from your TV or not).

Personally, I like to use Amazon Basics TOSLINK cables as they are cheap and very flexible. They do not come in short lengths though, so buying a short TOSLINK cable a 3.5 mm plug on one end is probably the better idea. As long as you aren't intending to play 24 Bit 192 kHz files, any TOSLINK cable will do.
Usually an adapter does not degrade the signal as it is extremely short.

Well, nobody can predict whether your TV's USB port will permanently put out power for the DAC. If it does not, you would have to use a regular phone charger out of the wall socket.

Thanks for your feedback !
I had the opportunity to try a DAC, "Real Cable NANO-DAC" ($ 45) made the sound was a little less messy, less confused.
Little significant accuracy, this DAC uses a Cirrus-Logic CS4344 /45/46/48 chipset, the same chip as the famous Fiio D03K !!

Are the two mobile DACs chipsets comparable or similar is more efficient at all levels ?
Thank you.
